It is unreasonable to consider earth as the basis for non-destruction, because you consider water, etc., as the basis for non-destruction. The harm from 'this has no basis' to 'what has been done' is the same for this. If so, how do you see the terms 'basis' and 'dependent' applied to them? Vases, etc., as the subject of discussion, are not the basis of water, etc., in the sense of causing water, etc., to remain non-destructive, because each moment the objects of water, etc., are destroyed. The continuity of objects like water, etc., arising in the same place, is the cause of arising, therefore it is the basis of water, etc. If it is not such a meaning of basis, then it is not reasonable to be a basis. Containers, etc., become the basis of water, etc., because they prevent water, etc., from flowing downwards. For qualities, universals, and actions, as the subject of discussion, what other meaning of basis is needed? None is needed, because there is no action of going to another place. By that reasoning, other abiding is also refuted. Third, by this reasoning of refuting the established, non-destructive basis and dependent, as the subject of discussion, it also eliminates the very notion that the basis and dependent are inseparably united and gathered, and that the cause of union and gathering, such as 'I' and 'mine', and the class of 'cow itself', etc., and the mind abiding in the elements, and the white color abiding in the cloth, etc., are considered to abide non-destructively by way of the basis, because it has been shown that there is no non-destructively abiding basis. The explanation of how the cause of abiding refutes abiding is extensively explained. Fourth, if an object is destroyed by another cause of destruction, then the object, as the subject of discussion, what has it done with its cause of non-destructive abiding? It has done nothing, because even if there is a basis, it will be destroyed by the cause of destruction. If the object has no other cause of destruction, but is destroyed by its own nature, then the object, as the subject of discussion, you have no power to make the causes of non-destructive abiding non-destructive, because you are destroyed by your own nature. Furthermore, all objects, as the subject of discussion, will not be destroyed even at some time, because all that have a non-destructive abiding basis possess non-destructive abiding, and you who arise all have a non-destructive abiding basis. Furthermore, do all objects destroy themselves or not? If the former, then the object, as the subject of discussion, what other non-destructive abiding basis is there? There is none, because if it destroys itself. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because it is the nature of a state of destruction. According to the second view, does the object, as a dharma possessing imperishable qualities, need another basis to remain imperishable? It does not need it. If it is not the nature of self-destruction, it remains imperishable. The fourth section has four aspects: establishing the reasoning that refutes other causes; establishing reverse pervasion in dissimilar examples; refuting the claim that the reasoning is unestablished; summarizing and demonstrating the establishment of self-cause. The first point is: wisdom and compassion, etc., are not produced from the proximate cause of the body, because they do not directly depend on the flourishing and decline of the body, but become flourishing and declining through the differences in the increase and decrease of the mind. The second point is: if someone says there is no pervasion, then for things like the light of a lamp, which depend on external proximate causes, it is not the case that they follow the increase and decrease of the mind without the increase and decrease of their own proximate cause, because they do not depend on the increase and decrease of the mind, but follow the increase and decrease of their own proximate cause. The third point is: if someone says that the root reason is not established, because the clarity or unclearness of wisdom arises from the flourishing and decline of the body, then the difference in wisdom, etc., caused by the flourishing and decline of the body, is not directly caused by the flourishing and decline of the body, but is caused by the body's indirect influence on the mind, which in turn influences wisdom. Furthermore, if someone says that because attachment and hatred arise from the flourishing and decline of the body, the root reason is not established, then in inappropriate attention and in some cases, attachment and hatred increase with the increase and decrease of the body, but this is also not directly caused by the flourishing and decline of the body, but is caused by the feelings of pleasure and pain that arise from the flourishing and decline of the body. And these feelings of pleasure and pain arise from the balance or imbalance of elements produced by the flourishing and decline of the body, as well as the differences in internal tactile sensations, and the wheel of body consciousness produced by the collection of bodily senses. By showing that attachment, etc., are not directly produced from the body, it can be explained that epidemic diseases and alcohol --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
