Oh! Refuting Proofs Based on Buddhist Scriptures Firstly: O Buddhists, if 'fame' itself is cited as an example according to your tenets, then, shouldn't it be that you do not accept that the mind of an Arhat (Sanskrit: Arhat, Buddhist practitioner who has attained liberation from rebirths) at the moment of death is without interruption, since the Buddhist tenet is not a valid tenet? Any tenet that is not established by valid cognition follows tenets that do not demonstrate truth, or rather, should not follow. Here, Lha Shak (name of a person) explains that the mind of an Arhat at the moment of death does not generate a subsequent mind as the ultimate meaning, while Nyima (name of a person) and others explain the opposite. However, for the materialists, this is merely to reveal the contradiction in their commitments, asking why the mind of an Arhat at the moment of death has no interruption, not that we ourselves believe it has no interruption. Refuting Proofs Based on the Materialists' Own Reasoning Secondly, it is divided into four parts: stating the position and posing questions; elaborating on the reasoning for refutation; dispelling misconceptions about the reasoning; and presenting the conclusion established by the refutation. Stating the Position and Posing Questions Firstly: If the mind of an Arhat at the moment of death does not generate a subsequent mind because that mind has separated from the body, then why not state 'separation from the body' as the reason for proving that the final mind of an ordinary person at the moment of death does not generate a subsequent mind? It should be stated, because the reason is the same. If you concede, then what is the use of the mind at the moment of death? It becomes meaningless. Elaborating on the Reasoning for Refutation Secondly, it is divided into six parts: refuting that the body is the direct cause of consciousness; refuting that the body and mind are cause and effect with close connection; refuting the relationship of dependence and support that does not produce an effect; refuting the cause-and-effect relationship of body and mind established by other reasoning; refuting that consciousness is the nature of the body; and refuting the view that consciousness arises dependent on the body. Refuting That the Body Is the Direct Cause of Consciousness Firstly, it is divided into three parts: refuting the direct cause through analysis; merely a cause but not a decisive factor; if it is a direct cause, it will lead to absurd conclusions. Refuting the Direct Cause Through Analysis Firstly: If you say that this reason (separation from the body) can be used to prove both the example and the subject of debate (the mind at the moment of death does not generate a subsequent mind), then does consciousness arise from a body with senses or from a body without senses? If consciousness arises directly from a body with senses, then... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If so, then the consciousness of the mind, which has consciousness, should also be able to clearly perceive objects like the consciousness of the eye, because it is another consciousness that arises directly from the eye faculty. The other faculties can also be applied in the same way. If someone argues that this excludes consciousness arising from each faculty individually, but rather from the collection of the five faculties, then, these five faculties, as a whole, cannot directly produce a single consciousness either, because you each have the ability to produce different consciousnesses such as eye consciousness. If consciousness can arise from a body without faculties, then, a body without faculties, you cannot produce conceptual consciousness, because you are inherently without mind. If the body and mind are not the relationship of support and supported, then it contradicts their co-existence. The body with a body and conceptual consciousness, they do not coexist because they are the relationship of support and supported, but because they arise from the same cause, they coexist. For example, the five faculties of some beings coexist, or the form and taste that depend on the same collection coexist. If the body changes due to illness, etc., then consciousness also changes, because consciousness directly depends on the body. Then, external things such as blood flowing from being stabbed with a weapon should also be the support of consciousness, because through them, consciousness also changes. Second, regarding the meaning of 'cause'. If the body is considered to be the cause that helps the mind produce particularities, then, if the body does not exist, the mind does not exist, this statement is not universally applicable. For example, all fruits, anything that exists before its production and can help its essence, is its proximate cause, and if the proximate cause does not exist, then the fruit does not exist, this is inevitable. What always exists, exists before its production and can help its essence, and always accompanies it. The cause is first, and the fruit is later, therefore, the Bhagavan (世尊) said: 'This being, that becomes; this arising, that arises'. 'This being' is a word in the seventh case, and 'this arising' is a word in the fifth case, used to indicate that the cause is first; the two words 'that becomes' and 'that arises' indicate that the fruit is later. In order to understand that the cause is first and the fruit is later, it must be expressed in this way. Such a proximate cause, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
