That is, you take the number of vases, etc., as a reason for being distinct from the vase, and express the two as different in that way. For example, in some cases, although having fingers and fingers are not different in essence, one still says 'having fingers,' expressing it differently. Furthermore, taking the word 'vase' as the object of reference, you and the dharma expressing 'the number of vases' both express the same vase, but you, as the object of reference, are known as a word of expression, because all the characteristics of you, the vase, are projected onto the expression of just the vase itself. Therefore, the object of reference is understood in that way. For example, if one says 'becomes having fingers,' then all the characteristics of the fingers are projected onto the object being expressed. Secondly, explaining the way of expressing types and collections: So, what is the difference between expressing a collection and expressing a type? Taking the word 'vase' as the object of reference, in relation to the eight particulate substances of the vase, it is a word expressing a collection, because the constituent particles of the vase have both common abilities and individual abilities. From the differences in their individual abilities, shapes, etc., arise, such as the generation of the perception of shape. This is through the way of abandoning the object being expressed, being the same as shapes, etc., that is, not being the cause of common results (such as holding water, etc.) like wood, etc., you will be excluded. Therefore, a collection like 'the shape of the vase, etc.,' and the word for the possessor of the collection (i.e., things with commonalities) are not appropriate, because the word 'vase' abandons the shape of the vase as the object being expressed. The word expressing a type, however, can be the same in basis as the word expressing the possessor of the type, because it does not abandon the possessor of the type as the object being expressed. For example, 'the Shapa tree is a tree.' The word expressing a type can be the same in basis as the possessor of the type, while the word expressing a collection cannot be the same in basis as the possessor of the collection. Therefore, regarding the words expressing types and collections, relative to one dharma, abandoning other differences and not abandoning other differences is not your distinction, because relative to different dharmas, not abandoning the possessor of the type as the object being expressed, and abandoning the possessor of the collection as the object being expressed, this is your distinction. If the vase and the shape of the vase, etc., are not different in essence, then there would be no need for expressions like 'the shape of the vase,' which treat the shape and the vase as different. The totality of those collections, such as the shape of the vase, etc., is distinguished by the vase as a branch. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Therefore, the sound of saying 'shape' and 'smell' of a vase, etc., has a reason. It is not unnecessary, because from among the many attributes of a vase, such as shape, the shape and smell, etc., are specifically marked out in order to clearly show the difference in their ability to generate eye consciousness, etc. The sound of 'shape' of a vase, in terms of its ability to show the difference in the ability of the shape of the vase, like the 'smell' of sandalwood, etc., should also be considered capable of showing the difference in ability, because the smell of sandalwood can be distinguished from other smells. If multiple parts of the body cannot be the cause. Second, multiple parts themselves cannot be the cause, divided into two situations: the collection of parts cannot be the cause; each part cannot be the cause. The collection of parts cannot be the cause. First, if, like the second view, the multiple parts of the body are the direct cause of consciousness, then consciousness, if a part of the body (such as the ear) is missing, should not arise, because the collection of all parts of the body is your cause. Each part cannot be the cause. The second point is divided into three parts: stating the obstructing inference; refuting the defense against it; eliminating similarity to oneself. Stating the obstructing inference. First, if, like the second view, then for a being with a body, multiple streams of consciousness should arise simultaneously, because each part of the body is able to generate one consciousness. Refuting the defense against it. The second point is divided into two situations: one breath cannot be the cause of consciousness; multiple breaths cannot be the cause of consciousness. One breath cannot be the cause of consciousness. First, even if there are multiple bodies, multiple consciousnesses will not arise simultaneously, because there is only one breath, so it is certain that one consciousness arises from it, if you think so, then breath, you cannot determine that only one consciousness can arise because you are one, because you, like the body, are composed of multiple particles. If this is not established, because breath and body are constant and one, so consciousness arises sequentially, then for a being with a body, multiple streams of consciousness should arise clearly simultaneously, because the cause of multiple streams of consciousness, that is, the constant breath and body with unimpeded ability, are always close. If breath and body are constant and one, then multiple consciousnesses --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
