༈ Refutation by extreme implication. Refutation by analysis. The first is: If the first reason is not established, that is, the abode of the mind that has already been established as existing, the body is the basis of the mind, then, this body, as the subject, is not the basis of the mind that has already been established as existing, because if the abode of the mind is analyzed as being one with or different from the mind, it is unreasonable. Thus, the abode of the mind, as the subject, should not be produced by the body, because you are not other than the mind of the abode, but are produced by the cause of the mind. If the abode of the mind is other than the mind of the abode, then this body, as the subject, does not do anything to the abode of the mind, because it is the cause of the abode of the mind other than the mind. Refutation by extreme implication. The second is divided into two: stating the extreme implication, and refuting the excuse. Stating the extreme implication: The first is: the mind, as the subject, should be indestructible, because the basis body that makes it exist without destruction is eternal. Refuting the excuse: The second is: If the body does not make the mind indestructible, but the mind is destroyed because it encounters the cause of destruction, then there is no fault. Then, for the view that the destruction of the mind is produced by the later cause, analyzing whether the destruction of the mind is one with or different from the mind will also face the same extreme implication: if the destruction of the mind is one with the mind, then there is no need for the later cause to produce it; if it is other, then the cause of destruction should not destroy the mind, because destruction is a different entity from the mind. Furthermore, the cause of the abode of the mind, as the subject, does not do anything to the indestructibility of the mind, because if it does not encounter the cause of destruction, even without you, the mind will not be destroyed; if it encounters the cause of destruction, even with you, it cannot make the mind indestructible. If the body makes the mind indestructible before encountering the cause of destruction, then the mind, as the subject, the cause of the abode, the body, is meaningless to you, because your destruction exists in the nature of your things, which is not hindered by the valid measure. Refuting the analogy of the established abode: The second is: If the established abode, such as the established abode of water is the vase, and the established abode of qualities and universals in the aggregate is the thing, then the body is also the established abode of the mind. Then, the vase, etc., as the subject, you should not... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Therefore, it is unreasonable to be a basis for non-destruction. You consider water etc. to be a basis for non-destruction, but the harm from 'this has no basis' to 'what has been done' is the same. Then, how do you view the use of the terms 'basis' and 'dependent' for them? A vase etc., as a dharma, is not a basis for the non-destruction of water etc., because water etc. are destroyed in every moment. The continuum of things like water, arising in the same location, is the cause of water etc., therefore it is a basis for water etc. If it is not such a meaning of basis, then it is unreasonable to be a basis. Containers etc. prevent water etc. from flowing downwards, therefore they become a basis for water etc. For qualities, generality, and actions etc., as dharmas, what other meaning of basis is needed? None is needed, because there is no action of going to other places. Therefore, in this way, the already established dwelling is also refuted. Third, by the reasoning of refuting the basis and dependent of the non-destructive dwelling, for dharmas, the combination of basis and dependent without difference, and the cause with combination, such as the self and the category of cows etc., and the mind dwelling on the earth, the white color dwelling on the cloth etc., the desire to abide non-destructively in the manner of a basis, these are also eliminated, because it has been shown that there is no non-destructive basis. Fourth, if a thing is destroyed by another cause of destruction, then what has its cause of non-destruction done? It has done nothing, because even if there is a basis, it will be destroyed by the cause of destruction. If a thing has no other cause of destruction, but is destroyed by its own nature, then for the causes of non-destruction, you have no power to make it non-destructive, because you are destroyed by your own nature. Furthermore, all things, as dharmas, will not be destroyed at any time, because all things with a non-destructive basis possess a non-destructive dwelling, and you, the arising one, all have a non-destructive basis. Furthermore, are all things destroyed by their own nature or not destroyed? If the former, then what other basis is there that makes it non-destructive? There is none, because it is by its own nature. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
