It is unreasonable to consider a place as the basis for something that does not perish. Because you consider water, etc., as the basis for not perishing, but the harm from 'this has no basis' to 'what did it do' is equally applicable. Then, how do you explain seeing the terms 'basis' and 'dependent' in these things? Objects like vases, etc., are not the basis of water, etc., in terms of making water, etc., exist without perishing. Because objects like water, etc., perish every moment. The continuum of objects like water, etc., being in the same place, is the cause of generating such a continuum, therefore it is the basis of water, etc. If it is not the meaning of such a basis, then it is unreasonable to be a basis. Vessels, etc., become the basis of water, etc., because they prevent water, etc., from flowing downwards. For qualities, universals, and actions, what other meaning of basis is needed? None is needed, because they have no action of going to other places. Therefore, the already established permanent things are also refuted. Third, this reasoning that refutes the already established imperishable permanent basis and dependent also negates the following views: that the basis and dependent are fused together without difference; the cause of fused things, such as the self and the species of cows, etc.; and the mind residing in the elements, the white color residing on the cloth, etc., which are considered to be permanent and imperishable bases. Because it has been shown that there is no imperishable basis. Fourth, if an object perishes due to another cause of destruction, then what did the object, in terms of its cause of non-destruction, do? It did nothing, because even if there is a basis, it will perish due to the cause of destruction. If the object has no other cause of destruction, but perishes by its own nature, then object, for the causes of non-destruction, you have no power to make it not perish, because you perish by your own nature. Furthermore, all objects will not perish even at some point, because all things with an imperishable basis possess the nature of non-destruction, and all you arising and ceasing things have an imperishable basis. Furthermore, do all things perish by their own nature or not? If the former, then object, what other basis is there that makes it not perish? There is none, because if it perishes by its own nature. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because it possesses the nature of existence. In the second case, the object, as the subject, what other basis is needed to make it exist without destruction? It is not needed, because if it is not of the nature of self-destruction, it will exist without destruction. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Depending on alcohol etc. causes memory loss and ignorance etc., but it is not said that alcohol etc. directly produce these. Rather, it is said that alcohol etc. creates differences in the inner sense of touch, and the power arising from this changes the mind, thus showing the production of these phenomena. Even if it helps indirectly, it is not a direct cause. For example, in some comparisons of lineages, it is said that a tiger appeared, hearing this sound, or seeing the blood of sacrifices etc., will indirectly lead to ignorance and fear etc., but this is not their direct cause. To briefly demonstrate the establishment of the self-cause: The fourth question is: Mind is not the direct cause of body and mind, therefore, mind is characterized by dharma. Mind depends on the previous mind, because it will not arise without the previous mind, because it will necessarily follow the habits of the previous mind. Refuting that mind is the nature of the body: The fifth question is divided into three parts: refuting that body and mind are the same through extreme reasoning; proving through wrong attachment and the self-cause of previous lives; refuting that there is no past or future life just because one has not seen it. Refuting that body and mind are the same through extreme reasoning: First, since it has been refuted that mind is the result of the body, now refuting the ability or merit of the body. The body is characterized by dharma, for example, just like the activities of the mind that depend on the previous mind to listen and manufacture etc., at some point, you will also manifest the merits of listening etc., because you are no different from the mind that manifests these merits. Proving through wrong attachment and the self-cause of previous lives: Second, ordinary sentient beings are characterized by dharma, they desire to obtain happiness by clinging to self, and hope to get rid of suffering, because they will accept things like inferior status, not controlled by others such as Ishvara etc. This is universal, because the inverted mind that perceives suffering as happiness, and the craving that binds to birth, is the cause of rebirth. If a person does not have these two wrong attachments, he will not be reborn. Refuting that there is no past or future life just because one has not seen it: Third, if it is said that sentient beings are characterized by dharma, there is no past or future life, because one has not seen going to the future life and coming from the past life, then, all people... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
