Now, like the light of a lamp inside a vase, in the vast expanse of the sky, the radiance and clear, fine lines and bindus appear, symbolizing the five kayas. The wisdom light of awareness manifests as Vairochana. It itself is immutable, Akshobhya. The increasing clarity of light is Ratnasambhava. The infinite light is Amitabha. Effortlessly and spontaneously perfected is the body of Amoghasiddhi, thus, one sees the faces of the five Buddha families. Clarity without clinging to it is the path, and habituation reaching perfection is the attainment of the fruit. As the tantra says, "One's own awareness dawns as the five kayas, Vairochana, Akshobhya, Ratnasambhava, Amitabha, and Amoghasiddhi dawn." The five wisdoms are: From before the separation of samsara and nirvana, the dharmata of awareness-wisdom is stainless and luminous, it is the mirror-like wisdom. The non-duality of the essence of luminosity is the wisdom of equality. Distinctly clear without mixing is the discriminating wisdom. Spontaneously accomplished without effort is the accomplishing wisdom. The emptiness-essence devoid of root is the wisdom of dharmadhatu, it is the nature of the five wisdoms. Regarding the meaning of luminosity, being undistracted and clear, appearance without bias, clear appearance without clinging, without difficulty, abiding in a state of neither meditating nor not meditating is the path, and that reaching perfection is the fruit. As the root tantra says, "Mirror-like, equality, discriminating, accomplishing, dharmadhatu are the wisdoms." The five families are: The immutable essence of the great luminosity-emptiness is the vajra family. The perfection of qualities is the ratna family. Appearance unblemished by faults is the padma family. Those habits that accomplish without remainder are the karma family. This itself is the footprint of all the Buddhas, therefore it is the tathagata family. Habituation to that state is the path, and reaching perfection is the fruit. From Self-Arisen it says, "The tathagata family and, the vajra family and the ratna family, the padma family and the karma family." The five lights are: Those lights are stainless, so white. The perfection of qualities is yellow. Abiding without seeking is red. The perfection of activity-ability is green. Immutable and stable is blue, abiding in the five lights. Abiding in that is the path, and reaching perfection is the fruit. The tantra says, "The qualities of awareness are clear as the five lights."

Thus it is said. The five winds are: The appearance of clear light is not separated from the warmth of wisdom, so it is the wind that is equal to fire. It holds the life of samsara and nirvana, so it is the life-holding wind. It separates the pure and impure of samsara and nirvana, so it is the separating wind. It spreads evenly to all, so it is the pervasive wind. It cuts off the life of samsara and causes one to attain nirvana, so it is the merciless wind of the end of the kalpa, these are the five winds. Familiarity is the path, and the ultimate is the fruit. In the Rangshar it says: Awareness dwells in the nature of the five winds, in all sentient beings. The five wisdoms are: Because the dharmata of clear light distinguishes between samsara and nirvana based on whether it is realized or not, it is the discriminating wisdom. The power of wisdom gathers appearances, so it is the gathering wisdom. It pervades all, so it is the pervasive wisdom. Clear appearances come and go, so it is the moving wisdom. If one realizes that, one is liberated from samsara, so it is the liberating wisdom, these are the five wisdoms. Familiarity and ultimate attainment are the path and the fruit. In that very text it says: That also, in the essence of awareness, is endowed with five aspects of wisdom. Thus it is said. The five dakinis are: Because of the appearance of clear light, blue, etc., as five, one sees the faces of the five Buddhas (Buddha, Devanagari: बुद्ध, Romanization: Buddha, meaning: Awakened One) etc. The five afflictions such as delusion are eliminated, and one comes into contact with the five wisdoms such as the dharmadhatu wisdom. All of that is the basis. Familiarity with each is the path. Ultimate attainment is the fruit. In the tantra it says: The wisdom of empty-clear awareness dwells in the five kinds of dakinis. Thus it is said. The fact that the five groups are taught together is also stated in that very tantra: From the self-born power of awareness, there dwell the five kayas and the five wisdoms, the five families, the five lights, the five winds, the five wisdoms, and so on. In short, the dharmata that abides in that way is not a mental construct fabricated by the mind, nor is it a mental image measured by the mind's conceptualization of empty forms and sensory experiences arising from the interdependent origination of the efforts of grasping the channels and winds. Rather, it is seeing the naturally arisen appearances, experiences, and dharmata as the very nature of unmistakenness. That is also the nature of the sphere, the empty-clear unconditioned nature that is pure from the beginning is wisdom. The nature of awareness, the appearance of the great clear light of dharmata, is skillful means. It abides in the manner of inseparable appearance and emptiness, as the essence of spontaneous accomplishment from the very beginning. And that appearance is not a conventional, conditioned, and perishable phenomenon.
