are the characteristics of that. Thus, when the measure of the four appearances is grasped, one will become enlightened in the state of no remainder by separating the boundaries of each and ultimately seeing the appearance of the exhaustion of phenomena. Otherwise, if it is not exhausted in that way, one will not become no remainder. As it says in the Tantra: "Thus, when the stream of the arising of the body is cut off, and the contaminated aggregates are no longer visible, one will manifestly awaken to enlightenment here." And: "If the nature of phenomena is not exhausted, one will not become the state of no remainder." The explanation of the practice of the four supports. Establishing the foundation on the three immovables. Secondly, the explanation of the practice of the four supports. As it says in "Klong gsal": "The four kinds of support instructions, it is impossible not to have them behind the higher ones." Although the essential point of the meaning is not grasped, it is necessary behind the higher ones, that is, the four appearances, which are: establishing the foundation, measuring, fixing, and the degree of liberation. Among these, the first is establishing the foundation on the three immovables. One should not move from the three ways of sitting. That is, because the body does not move, the channels do not move; because the channels do not move, the winds do not move; because the winds do not move, the mind does not move; because the mind does not move, the moving thoughts will cease, and one will abide in awareness. One should not move from the way of looking with the eyes, because the essential channel of awareness, its essential door, and its essential lamp. Therefore, if the channel does not move, the eyes do not move; if the eyes do not move, the lamp does not move, so the increase and holding of appearances, and the indivisibility of the expanse and awareness. One should not move from the unfabricated state of wind and mind, so that no conceptual thoughts arise, and manifestation and liberation are simultaneous. There is a need for the union of expanse and awareness. As it says in the Root Tantra: "Therefore, have faith in the supports. Having established the foundation on the three immovables, the wind and mind will reach the essential point." Measuring with the three abidings. Secondly, measuring with the three abidings. When the wind that moves the outer appearances is exhausted, the expanse and awareness abide without coming and going. By abiding in this way, the pure land will reach its measure. When the wind that moves the inner aggregates is exhausted, the body abides without moving. By abiding in this way, the illusions of samsara are purified. When the wind that moves the secret thoughts is exhausted, the conceptual thoughts abide without moving. By abiding in this way, the causes of the mind's conceptual thoughts moving are exhausted. At that time, there will be two things: the measure shown by dreams, and the appearance at the three doors of signs. First, grasping the measure by dreams is for those with sharp faculties and great diligence.

When immersed in the realm of dreams, pure sleep manifests as luminosity. This is a sign of achieving the light body in this very life and attaining Buddhahood, as the connection of habitual patterns is severed; the intermediate one, knowing in dreams and being accustomed to transformation, will surely recognize the bardo and be liberated, a sign of that; the inferior one, the dreams of bad habitual patterns are completely exhausted, and only dreams of good things, a sign of exhaling into natural transformation. The signs appear in the three doors: As a sign of seeing the appearance of the manifest nature of reality, the body does not remain in activity, the pulse is slow, like a turtle placed in a shell, there is no movement. Speech is pure in its basis, like a mute, unwilling to speak. The mind realizes self-liberation without grasping, like a dakini entering samadhi, remaining in concentration. As a sign of seeing the appearance of increasing experience, the winds dissolve into the central channel, and there is no discrimination between good and bad, so the body does not adorn itself with grooming and ornaments, like a man afflicted by illness. Speech transcends affirmation and negation, so like a madman blurting out his own words, he speaks randomly and spontaneously. The mind's collection of thoughts dissolves on its own, so like a man poisoned seven times, knowing he will surely die, he is determined not to turn back to recollection. The three signs of the perfection of wisdom: the body gains power over the channels and winds, so like an elephant stuck in the mud, pulling itself out by its own strength, there is no attachment or obstruction to the five elements, and it goes through unobstructed. Knowing that speech transcends expression, like a child in a pot singing a song, it captivates others and makes them believe. The mind realizes the meaning of primordial purity, original liberation, and no basis for renewal, so like a man cured of smallpox, he is confident that he will not return to the three realms. As a sign of seeing the appearance of the exhaustion of phenomena, the body is purified of materiality, so like a corpse in a charnel ground, even if an executioner appears, there is no fear or apprehension. Realizing the state of no speech, speech ceases, like an echo in a valley, it completely disappears and only repeats the words of others. The mind is purified of all grasping and thoughts, so like a mist dissolving in space, it is able to attain Buddhahood in an instant. Furthermore, in the root tantra it says: Measure with the three abidings, the reversal of dreams and body, speech, and mind, the signs and degrees should be definitely grasped. Furthermore, it should also be known: what is said in the tantra
