Through its power, the external arising of illusory appearances and the internal habitual patterns of deluded conceptual mind are exhausted, and all experiences of the secret, luminous clarity dissolve into the inexpressible realm of dharmata. Within the light, nothing is visible except for the extension of the fingers of the hand. There is no essence of grasping at appearance and non-appearance, and one is free from the notions of samsara and nirvana. At that time, the wisdom of dharmata truly increases and expands, yet there is no exhaustion and decrease. Since it does not establish the essence of anything, it transcends the mind of thought and expression, and is therefore referred to as the exhaustion of appearance. There are two ways in which this exhaustion occurs: gradual exhaustion is when the four appearances reach their limit and then exhaust. For a very few individuals with supreme intelligence, exhaustion can occur without waiting for increase and attainment of the limit, because they have become accustomed to the direct appearance. In any case, because coarse matter is transformed into light, it cannot be overcome by the enemies of the elements. Because afflictions are transformed into light, memory and the object of memory vanish without a trace like a walpo. Because appearance is transformed into light, the illusions of going, staying, and the appearance of the sun and moon, etc., naturally disappear without a trace, and even the thought that "it is like this" cannot be established. Therefore, all forms are said to be nirvana, the dharmakaya is self-purified, and dharmata reaches its own ground. At this time, there is no obstruction to direct perception, and one remains only in the clarity of compassion. Otherwise, experience, body, senses, conceptual aggregates, words, and all illusions are exhausted, and thoughts naturally vanish. Because the aggregates are exhausted, one does not regress, but attains Buddhahood in a light body. As the root tantra says: "The appearance of the exhaustion of dharmata is when the appearance of experience is emptied, the body is exhausted, and the objects of the senses are also exhausted. The aggregates of conceptualization and illusion are naturally liberated, and one is separated from the object of expression." And: "Although the fruit cannot be expressed, the dharmas reach the point of exhaustion, and the limits of one's own establishment are also destroyed. At this time, the guru's instructions disappear, the limits of view, meditation, and conduct are exhausted, and the appearance of the dharmakaya is non-existent. The continuity of body and wisdom is cut off, there is no Buddha and no sentient being. In short, nothing remains, there is no going and no coming." Thus. If one wishes to manifest here as the body of great transference to benefit sentient beings, because one has power over rebirth, appearances gradually exhaust, and the fingers
