Possessing. The way of residing in skillful means, etc., is the essence of meditation. Continuously abiding in the samadhi that possesses this essence is called meditation. It is divided into meditation with skillful means, meditation with wisdom, and meditation with inseparable skillful means and wisdom. The former includes limitless methods such as tummo and skillful means paths. Here, it refers to single-pointedly abiding in the state of the meaning of the above view, the union of space-awareness, skillful means and wisdom, emptiness and clarity, without grasping, and without laziness intervening, hence it is called the meditation of union day and night. The way to practice it is: divide into sessions, without laziness or idleness, generate bodhicitta at the beginning of each session, during the main practice be without object and without distraction, and seal it at the end with dedication. In short, abide in the view of equipoise without wavering, clear emptiness without grasping, and in the post-meditation practice like a dream and illusion. As it is said in the tantras: "The essence of meditation is skillful means, what is meditated and the meditator are the meditation of skillful means." And: "The definition of meditation is because of abiding." And: "The meditation of union of skillful means, the meditation of wisdom itself, the meditation of non-duality of skillful means and wisdom, this is the most profound of meditations." And: "The view itself is called meditation in meaning, day and night pass with dharma, therefore meditate in union." And: "Having abandoned laziness and idleness, constantly abide in meditation." And: "The meditation of emptiness and clarity, free from doubt, is the most supreme of all meditations." The Yoga of Conduct. Third, the Yoga of Conduct, not abandoning pleasure and pain, treating them equally, and enhancing view and meditation, is the essence of conduct. Since all is known as self-knowing, self-arising, and self-liberating, therefore acting without acceptance or rejection of whatever appears is called conduct. There are three divisions: Conduct that differs from ordinary behavior is: Dharma conduct, as it is said in the Abhisamayalankara: "Writing, offering, and giving, listening, reading, and holding, explaining, reciting, and thinking, these ten dharmas are the gateway, the footprints of the guides." Differentiating samsara and nirvana is also the same as before. Here, the conduct of asceticism as a path is: In order to make the view and meditation coincide and enhance each other, if one has attachment, then one obtains confirmation from a friend, and if one is without attachment, then it is from the mudra of experience.

Associating with (these people), wandering in cemeteries or empty places in the guise of beggars or wounded beasts, like bees, and the seven behaviors of beasts, mutes, owls, madmen, lions, dogs, and pigs, behaviors that correspond to the order and boundaries of the senses, are called the behaviors of asceticism and mastery. The way to practice it is: relying on one's own capacity and ability, beginners engage in listening, thinking, and meditating like bees, until the equality of pleasure and pain, good and bad, and up to the behavior of yoga mastery, these seven forms arise naturally and without obstruction on the basis of conditions. The scripture says: "In the nature of behavior, be equal in taste, practice on the path of self-arising and self-liberation." Also, in 'Self-Arising,' it says: "The very act of non-action is self-born, uncorrected, and unadulterated. That is the great act." The scripture says: "The number of actions is summarized as seven." And: "Action itself is ascetic mastery." And in 'Sun and Moon Union,' it says: "With the behavior of a bee, experience the taste of all dharmas. With the behavior of a beast, abandon the objects that cause delusion. With the behavior of a mute, completely abandon deluded speech. With the behavior of an owl, cut off doubts about secret methods. With the behavior of a madman, abandon places of solitude. With the behavior of a lion, abandon the mind of fear and wander in cemeteries. With the behavior of a dog and pig, abandon the discrimination of clean and unclean." Thus it is said. The Yoga of Fruition. Fourth, regarding the yoga of fruition, obtaining a firm position from which there is no turning back is the nature of fruition, and the ground itself is matured by the path, hence it is called fruition. There are two divisions: the temporary fruition refers to the common maturation of results during the path stage. The ultimate fruition is when the actions of the three doors and all habitual tendencies and afflictive obscurations are self-arising and self-liberating like a snake's knot, which is called the fruition of pure and spontaneous accomplishment. The way to practice it is: by placing awareness itself on whatever appears and arises, familiarity becomes space, and for the appearance of appearance-emptiness-luminosity, being free from acceptance and rejection, hope and doubt, the natural state becomes the essence, thereby quickly obtaining stability.
