First, showing the distinction is: In the *Mūlamadhyamakakārikā* it says, \"If saṃsāra and nirvāṇa are not distinguished, then the three realms of body, speech, and mind, their connection will not be severed, therefore saṃsāra and nirvāṇa are said to be distinguished.\" This means that the nature of the three doors of body, speech, and mind of sentient beings is primordially and naturally pure, but temporarily obscured by the sudden appearance of delusion. From beginningless time, they have been revolving and wandering in the six realms, and the bodily postures, verbal expressions, mental discriminations, and experiences of suffering of each of the six realms are inconceivable, yet they still cling and are attached. What can be done? Therefore, saṃsāra and nirvāṇa must be distinguished, so that the root of birth in saṃsāra is cut off from now on. First, the manner of external distinction has general and specific aspects. First, the general showing is: As it says in the *Instructions to a Son*, \"In order to reverse the manifest clinging of body, speech, and mind, one must first begin practice.\" Just as the seventh root downfall does not contaminate, secretly go to a place where there is no traffic or sight and sound of people, such as a desolate valley, deep in a forest, or on a hillside, offer a torma to the local earth deity, and request that they do not interfere with chaotic behavior. In order to cut off all the illusory appearances of saṃsāra arising from karma and conditions, one should externally distinguish saṃsāra and nirvāṇa separately. That is to say, in order to accomplish the benefit of all sentient beings who are like mothers and equal to space, one should distinguish the three doors of karmic appearance of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa separately, and with the firm intention to never return to saṃsāra from now on, engage in various actions of body, speech, and mind, manifesting a state of fatigue." } ] ============================================================

Observe the nature of the decided after-consciousness and rest. The manner of distinguishing. Secondly, the manner of distinguishing is: As it is said in 'After Death': "In order to precede the body, practice various behaviors of the six realms, and also practice the behaviors of the Three Jewels. In order to precede speech, utter various sounds of the six realms, and also practice the sounds of peace and wrath and the sounds of arising, and various forms themselves. In order to precede the mind, take the suffering of the six realms into the mind." As it is said, and in accordance with this, it is said in 'Thal Gyur': "The body is walking and staying, contracting and various illusions, extending limbs and gathering, showing various actions. With the mind of mindfulness, manifest the actions of the forms of the six realms. The mind takes and the body acts." And it says, "Because what is said does not turn back, gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, pisachas, and all-pervading ones, speak the sounds of good and bad distinctions. In short, the sounds of the six realms, the mind remembers and thinks, and the speech speaks." Also, in 'The One Lineage of the Buddha's Son': "Pleasure and displeasure, happiness and suffering, permanence and impermanence, etc., the thoughts of view, meditation, and action, dharma and non-dharma, etc., attachment, anger, and ignorance, virtue and non-virtue, etc., do various thoughts and actions." As it is said, the body takes upon itself the heat and cold of hell beings, the hunger and thirst of pretas, the servitude of animals, the fighting of asuras, the falling of gods, and other sufferings, and makes the various gestures and actions of each of the six realms, from the way of first generating the mind of enlightenment, until becoming a Buddha and teaching the Dharma, and the actions between nirvana and the abiding of the teachings, and the various actions of the retinue with lineage, and also running and jumping, walking and staying, extending and contracting limbs, contracting and extending, and various illusions, trembling, dancing, jumping, peaceful and wrathful postures, singing, dancing, and playing games, etc., whatever actions can be thought of, making them weary and tired. The speech makes the sounds of hell beings: A tsa tsa, a chu chu, a na na, kye hud, etc., and the pretas: I am hungry, I am cold, I am thirsty, I have nothing.
