is necessary, and abiding in a state of neither meditating nor not meditating is the path, and its culmination is the fruit. From the Root Tantra: "Mirror-like equality individually realized, action accomplished, Dharmadhatu wisdom." Thus it is. The five families are: the Vajra family because the essence of clear light, appearance, and emptiness is immutable; the Ratna family because of the perfection of qualities; the Padma family because appearance is untainted by faults; the Karma family because all those who are accustomed to it attain complete accomplishment; and the Tathagata family because this is the path trodden by all Buddhas. Accustoming oneself to that state is the path, and its culmination is the fruit. From Rangshar: "The Tathagata family and the Vajra family and the Ratna family, the Padma family and the Karma family." Thus it is. The five lights are: white because those clear lights are without impurity, yellow because of the perfection of qualities, red because it is unsearched and self-abiding, green because the power of action is complete, and blue because it is unchanging and stable, thus abiding in five. Abiding in that state is the path, and its culmination is the fruit. From the Tantra: "The qualities of awareness are clear as five lights." Thus it is. The five winds are: the wind that is equal to fire because this appearance of clear light is inseparable from the warmth of wisdom; the life-sustaining wind because it holds the life of samsara and nirvana; the separating wind because it separates the pure and impure of samsara and nirvana; the pervasive wind because it spreads equally to all; and the merciless aeon of karmic wind because it cuts off the life of samsara and causes one to pass beyond sorrow, these are the five. Accustoming oneself is the path, and culmination is the fruit. From Rangshar: "Awareness in the nature of the five winds, abides in all sentient beings." The five wisdoms are: the discriminating wisdom because the nature of clear light distinguishes between samsara and nirvana based on whether it is realized or not; the gathering wisdom because the power of wisdom gathers appearances; the pervasive wisdom because it pervades all; the moving wisdom because clear appearances come and go; and the liberating wisdom because realizing it liberates one from samsara, thus abiding in five. Accustoming oneself to it and culminating it is the path and the fruit. From that very text: "Also, in the essence of awareness, it possesses five aspects of wisdom." Thus it is. The five dakinis are: because clear light appears as blue, etc., as five, one sees the faces of the five Buddhas, such as Ṭākki; the five afflictions, such as delusion, are eliminated; one comes into contact with the five wisdoms, such as Dharmadhatu wisdom,

E. All of that is the basis. Gradually becoming familiar is the path. Ultimate completion is the result. In the tantra, it is said: "The wisdom of empty-clarity awareness abides as the five types of dakinis." Thus, the five aggregates are also taught as one. In that same tantra, it says: "From the self-arisen power of awareness, the five bodies and the five wisdoms, the five families, the five lights, and the five winds, abide in the five wisdoms and so forth." In short, the nature of reality that abides in that way is not something conceptually fabricated by the mind, nor is it a mental construct with a picture in the mind, examined by sense-experiences and mental activity arising from the interdependence of grasping at the channels and winds. Rather, it is seeing the nature of reality, the appearance-experience that is primordially established, as the very nature of unmistaken direct perception. Moreover, the very nature of space, primordially pure from the beginning, empty-clear and uncompounded, is wisdom. The very nature of awareness, the appearance of the great luminosity of the nature of reality, is skillful means. It abides in a state of inseparable appearance and emptiness, spontaneously present from the beginning. And that appearance is not a phenomenon of samsara, compounded and subject to destruction, but rather the ultimate, uncompounded, unchanging state of the nature of reality. These luminous appearances are not like worldly illusions either. As the Jeweled Garland says: "The nature of space is the wisdom body, the nature of awareness is the skillful means body, abiding in a state of inseparability." And as the Root Tantra says: "The essence of awareness is a continuous stream. In the past, future, and present, it is not made by anyone, therefore it is uncompounded. It is the nature of a continuous stream. Since all conceptualizations are pure, it is the unconfused, fundamental Buddha. For the fortunate one who relies on direct perception, there is no name for the three realms of samsara, therefore the life-force of the three existences is severed." And as The Lamp That Illuminates says: "That which appears in such variety is not made or brought about by gradual steps, but is primordially present as the basis. In such yoga of confident understanding, there is no mind of joy upon appearance, for the way of abiding is such from the beginning. The appearance of the lamp of awareness-radiance cannot be destroyed by the sounds of the elements of earth, water, fire, and wind. By an individual who is not prophesied, even if they look with a clear lamp, mirror, or empty space, or with empty eyes, they will not see it. By philosophical tenets and views on meditation,
