Like those, it appears without an object of focus. With the apprehended and the apprehender liberated, the nature of consciousness is the ultimate truth. This is the doctrine of the Yogacara school, proclaiming the transcendence of the ocean's far shore. However, the wise do not accept that consciousness exists in the ultimate sense, because it is devoid of the nature of one and many, like a lotus in the sky. It is neither existent nor nonexistent, nor both existent and nonexistent, nor is it the self-nature of both. Understanding that the suchness is liberated from these four extremes is the view of the Madhyamaka school.' This was spoken by Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig). These verses briefly explain Manjushri's (Jampal's) own view on the tenets, and they also appear in Aryadeva's 'Essence of Wisdom, Collected from All' and Jetari's 'Discrimination of the Sugata's (Desheg's) Doctrine'. Therefore, in the view of the Mind-Only school, it is said that 'consciousness exists in the ultimate sense,' but it is not said that 'the perfectly established nature,' 'Buddha,' or 'wisdom' exists in the ultimate sense. And when the Madhyamaka school refutes this, it says, 'The wise do not accept that consciousness exists in the ultimate sense,' but it does not say, 'The wise do not accept that the perfectly established nature,' 'Buddha,' or 'wisdom' exists in the ultimate sense. When explaining the reality of Madhyamaka, the 'suchness that is liberated from the four extremes' is merely a negation by exclusion, or it refers to a state that cannot be expressed in any way, which is the non-affirming Madhyamaka spoken of in the interim stage. But it is not like that; the basis of separation or the basis of emptiness of all unexamined phenomena, which is the non-dual wisdom of the nature of phenomena, is the ultimate, the affirming Madhyamaka spoken of up to the final teaching, and the bliss of the body spoken of in the tantras. As the commentary on the tantra quoted earlier says: 'Here, with whose compassion there is no object of focus, and is free from conceptual thought, and the emptiness that possesses all supreme aspects, in order to fully know the three times, one engages in the three times.' This is the definitive conclusion of the Buddhas. It is also said: 'The instantaneous wisdom that is free from one and many is the very nature of the Buddhas.' This speaks of the wisdom of the union of skillful means and wisdom, and the unconditioned wisdom. In the 'Manjushri Visualization' it also says: 'With these words that speak the truth, the previously spoken views are refuted, the previous and later views, the latter sequence is more powerful.' 'As the Yogacara school says, it is to show to those who speak of no wisdom, the Madhyamaka school of the fully enlightened Buddha is not like that, it is spoken to the Buddha's sons.' Therefore, the earlier and later teachings, the latter is more powerful, and the mind... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Mind-Only school posits consciousness alone without wisdom, while the Madhyamaka school flourishes with non-dual wisdom. In the 'Praise of Names,' it is stated: 'Transcending the nature of consciousness, holding the form of non-dual wisdom.' Furthermore, in the Kalachakra Tantra, it says: 'The subtle particles of the three realms are not form but consciousness; likewise, consciousness itself does not exist. The Buddha's wisdom does not abide anywhere,' these words reveal the Buddhas. Those who are free from change and separation, by grasping emptiness, truly see emptiness. Therefore, the Supreme One revealed the unchanging, innate bliss of the body, which is taught in the Mantrayana. Moreover, in the Vimalakirti Sutra, it is said: 'Neither existent nor non-existent, neither both nor neither, not even the nature of duality. Liberated from the four extremes, I prostrate to the body of great bliss.' The Madhyamaka of Mantra is the union of bliss and emptiness. From the aspect of bliss, it is the Great Bliss Madhyamaka, and from the aspect of emptiness, it is the Appearance Madhyamaka, because it is emptiness with all supreme aspects, emptiness with an object of focus. Although in the Sutras, 'purity, self, bliss, and permanence' are mentioned, this only refers to the absence of all suffering. The bliss of Mantra is far superior to this, it is immeasurable great bliss. Therefore, the divisions of Madhyamaka are the Non-Appearance Madhyamaka, the Appearance Madhyamaka, and the Great Bliss Madhyamaka. Previously, the divisions of Madhyamaka were the Prasangika and Svatantrika, and within these, there were the non-abiding and the illusion-like. These are Tibetan terms for the divisions of Non-Appearance Madhyamaka only, and are not directly taken from the Buddha's words. Therefore, the ultimate difference between Madhyamaka and Mind-Only is that one is unconditioned non-dual wisdom, and the other is merely consciousness. The practitioners and teachings that accept these views are the corresponding individuals and texts. In the past, in India and Tibet, classifying the later Madhyamaka scholars such as Bhavyaviveka and their followers as Mind-Only, and classifying the noble Asanga and others as Mind-Only, should be understood as theft of the Dharma. Furthermore, the difference between Madhyamaka and Mind-Only is that the three schools of object-affirming below Mind-Only only speak of and meditate on the selflessness of persons, not the selflessness of phenomena. Their treatises only clarify phenomena such as consciousness, and not the suchness of ultimate truth. Therefore, they are far from perfect enlightenment, not near. They are holders of Nirvana with remainder, not Nirvana without remainder. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
