In the Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra, it says, 'By hearing all the sūtras and all the samādhis, one does not know that the Tathāgatagarbha (如来藏, *tathāgatagarbha*, *tathāgatagarbha*, the womb of the Tathāgata) exists.' Like mushrooms growing in the summer, all the profound statements that arise from this great Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra, upon hearing it, one will correctly know that all sentient beings have the Tathāgatagarbha. The Ratnagotravibhāga (宝性论, *ratnagotravibhāga*, *ratnagotravibhāga*, Treatise on the Jewel Family) also says, 'Like this, because one has not heard...' etc., and 'From hearing this...' etc. This is because in the Sūtra on Showing the Great Compassion of the Tathāgata, it also says: 'Just as a jeweler sequentially cleans the coarse, medium, and fine impurities on a jewel, in order to purify the coarse, medium, and fine impurities of the Tathāgatagarbha, the Buddha sequentially turned the first, second, and third turnings of the Dharma wheel.' If the second turning of the Dharma wheel is inferior to the third, then the path of meditation that counteracts the medium afflictions to be abandoned through meditation should be inferior to the great path of meditation that counteracts the subtle afflictions to be abandoned through meditation, but that is not the case. In the same sūtra, it says, 'Son of good family, just as a skilled jeweler who knows well the method of cleaning jewels, takes a precious jewel that is not completely pure from a mine of jewels, soaks it in strong salt water, and cleans it thoroughly with a hair. But he does not abandon the effort, and then soaks it in strong broth, and cleans it thoroughly with wool. But he does not abandon the effort, and then soaks it in the juice of great medicine, and cleans it thoroughly with thin cloth. A jewel that is completely cleaned and free from impurities is called a great vaidurya jewel.' 'Son of good family, similarly, the Tathāgata, knowing the realm of sentient beings that is not completely pure, causes beings who delight in samsara to become weary with the words of impermanence, suffering, selflessness, impurity, and renunciation, and leads them into the Vinaya (律藏, *vinaya*, *vinaya*, monastic discipline) of the noble ones. But this does not cause the Tathāgata to abandon the effort, and then with the words of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, he causes them to realize the nature of the Tathāgata. But this does not cause the Tathāgata to abandon the effort, and then he proclaims the teaching of the irreversible Dharma wheel...'

The Three Dharmas With perfectly pure words, those sentient beings with various natures are led into the realm of the Tathagata (Tathagata, one of the titles of the Buddha, meaning 'Thus Gone' or 'Thus Come'). If one has entered and realized the Dharmata (Dharmata, the true nature of reality) of the Tathagata, it is said to be the supreme place of merit. In the Great Nirvana Sutra, it says: From milk comes yogurt, from yogurt comes fresh butter, from fresh butter comes ghee, and from ghee comes the essence of butter. Similarly, from the twelve categories of scriptures comes the Sutra Pitaka (Sutra Pitaka, the collection of discourses), from the Sutra Pitaka comes the extensive section, from the extensive section comes the Prajnaparamita (Prajnaparamita, the perfection of wisdom), and from the Prajnaparamita comes the Sutra of Complete Nirvana, like the essence of butter. The Teaching Sutras, in the manner of self-commentary Sutra Pitaka, in the Definitive Meaning Commentary, says: The Blessed One (Bhagavan, an epithet of the Buddha) in Varanasi (Varanasi, an ancient Indian city) in the Deer Park at Rishipatana (Mrigadava, place name), for those who have truly entered the Hearer Vehicle (Shravakayana, the vehicle of the hearers or disciples), explained the Four Noble Truths (Aryasatya, the fundamental teachings of Buddhism), turning the wheel of Dharma (Dharmacakra, the wheel of Dharma) which is wonderful and marvelous, which had never been turned in accordance with the Dharma by anyone, whether they were gods or humans in the past. The wheel of Dharma turned by the Blessed One is supreme and has skillful means, and is a place that can be led to debate. The Blessed One, starting from the fact that the essence of all dharmas (Dharmas, phenomena or elements of existence) is without essence, that is, without birth and without cessation, from the beginning is peaceful, and by nature is completely extinguished, for those who have entered the Mahayana (Mahayana, the Great Vehicle), by explaining emptiness (Shunyata, the Buddhist concept of emptiness or non-self), turned the second wheel of Dharma which is most wonderful and marvelous. The wheel of Dharma turned by the Blessed One is supreme and has skillful means, and is a place that can be led to debate. The Blessed One, starting from the fact that the essence of all dharmas is without essence, that is, without birth and without cessation, from the beginning is peaceful, and by nature is completely extinguished, for those who have truly entered all vehicles (Yana, vehicle, referring to different paths or methods of practice), turned the third wheel of Dharma which is endowed with excellent distinctions and is most wonderful and marvelous. This wheel of Dharma turned by the Blessed One is unsurpassed and without skillful means, it is the definitive meaning (Nitartha, the ultimate truth), and is not a place that can be led to debate. The Blessed One, starting from the fact that the essence of all dharmas is without essence, starting from the fact that by nature it is completely extinguished, the Blessed One with definitive meaning... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
