Here, the extensive explanations are summarized into two ways of exposition. First, the actual exposition of the reasoning or arguments for ascertaining the meaning of selflessness to be realized. Putowa said, "Following the Madhyamaka-aloka, Tibet has made four great arguments, all of which are included in the two: separation from one and many, and dependent origination. Among them, all arguments that prevent production are called dependent origination. Here, the four-fold negation of production is not mentioned. Examining from the perspective of the result, there is the negation of production of existence and non-existence; examining from the perspective of the cause, there is the Vajra Splinter, which was named by Acharya Kamalaśīla. Examining both cause and result, there is the argument of separation from one and many." Among the two arguments as stated, the first, the argument of dependent origination that prevents production, also has two aspects. First, examining from the perspective of the result, the argument of the negation of production of existence and non-existence is: It is not reasonable for what exists to be produced, like a sky flower. The fault is that both would be consequential, and it is not possible for both to occur. As it is said. That is, the previously asserted emptiness of inherent existence of the aggregates and other phenomena has not been established. If one wonders whether there is a knowable, truly existent entity, then to prevent this wrong conception, if it exists, it must exist in the cause and the result. Examining from the perspective of the result, are the aggregates and so on produced as being of the nature of existence, non-existence, or both? If one thinks that what exists is produced, that is not reasonable, because what exists is already established and does not need to be produced by causes and conditions. If what exists is produced as its own nature, then there is no time when it is not produced, and production would become endless. If one thinks that what does not exist is produced, that is not reasonable, like a sky flower. As the Hundred Deeds Sutra says, "Even with hundreds of thousands of billions of causes, nothing can be transformed into existence." Therefore, no matter how powerful the cause is, it cannot produce non-existence. If non-existence arises from a cause, because there is no difference, it will also arise from a non-cause, and sky flowers and rabbit horns will also arise. Furthermore, if one thinks that it does not exist in the nature of the great result, but in the nature of the cause, it arises from both existence and non-existence, that is not reasonable, because that

If one examines whether things exist when they are already born or not yet born, then the very existence as a cause cannot be established. Because existence and non-existence are contradictory, it is unreasonable for both to be the case. Regarding the aspect of an existing thing arising, if what has already arisen arises again, then arising would become endless, and so on. Regarding the aspect of a non-existent thing arising, it contradicts being a place for a cause, like a flower in the sky. Because it would entail both of the faults previously shown. Fruits, such as aggregates, etc., also do not arise from both existence and non-existence. As it is said in the Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness: 'What exists does not arise because it exists; what does not exist does not arise because it does not exist; because the two are contradictory, neither arises.' The second, the reasoning of the Vajra Splinter, which analyzes from the perspective of the cause, states: 'Things do not arise from themselves, nor from others, nor from both; because there is no cause, there is no thing; therefore, by nature, there is no inherent existence.' That is to say, if one thinks that aggregates, etc., are truly existent as causes, then, if one analyzes these aggregates, etc., from the perspective of the cause, do the aggregates, etc., arise from their own cause, or from another, or from both, or from no cause? There are no more than these four extremes. Among these, the assertion that they arise from themselves is unreasonable. As it is said: 'If there is nothing, what will be the condition? If there is something, what will the condition do?' According to this reasoning, do they arise from a self that is established or from one that is not established? If they arise from one that is established, then arising becomes meaningless and endless. If they arise from one that is not established, then just as the object to be produced is not established, the producer is also not established, and therefore it is non-existent. Because a non-existent thing is empty of all capabilities, it cannot be a cause, nor can it be a result. Therefore, the objects of aggregates, etc., do not arise from themselves from the perspective of the cause. If it is said that they arise from others, then the other itself cannot be established. If the result is self-established, then the previous fault of not needing to be produced and being endless will occur. If it is not self-established, then how can it become another, since there is no dependence? As it is said: 'The other depends on the other to be other; how can what is not other become other?' Because these two are mutually dependent. Moreover, if another arises from another, then because there is no difference, everything would arise from everything. As said by the teacher Chandrakirti
