Therefore, one meditates by examining. First, meditating on just the five aggregates, the twelve senses, and the eighteen realms is the key instruction, because all illusions about self and phenomena arise based on the aggregates and so on. Therefore, the basis of illusion, whether it is an object or a subject, is examined and emptied. That is, to counter the idea of clinging to a single self, one should contemplate the aggregates as merely a collection of non-assembled parts. To counter the idea of clinging to a cause, one should contemplate them as merely the senses. When clinging to the characteristic of having no action, that is the realms, such as clinging to the characteristic of earth as solidity and so on. To counter the idea of clinging to an eater, one should contemplate them as merely the senses. By contemplating in this way, clinging to self is reversed. This is not an emptiness of negation, where existence is made non-existent by being negated, but rather something that is naturally unborn. In order to recognize the illusion of clinging to something that is not truly established as true, the basis of illusion itself is analyzed by discriminating awareness, because it cannot be proven to be true, so the illusion is reversed. When that is reversed, one will realize the unborn nature. And clinging to self also arises from clinging to phenomena. As it says in the "Garland of Jewels": As long as there is clinging to the aggregates, there is clinging to self. If there is clinging to self, there is also action. From that (action) comes rebirth. Therefore, one fabricates about the aggregates and so on, seeing form as self, and the rest as belonging to self. This view of self and what belongs to self is the cause of samsara and the lower realms, so it should be abandoned. By abandoning this, one also attains liberation and enlightenment. This is also meditating by examining with discriminating awareness. Among these, the Prasangika and Svatantrika schools both originated in India. Lord Atisha approved of the Prasangika, and does not analyze with reasoning that enters through the power of objects, but rather examines with the wisdom of discriminating awareness, because one meditates on just the state of nothing being established, so he does not accept complete negation. It is said that Nagarjuna's intention was also like this. Therefore, in order to attain Buddhahood, one must realize the selflessness of phenomena, which is free from all elaborations. Second, explaining in detail the method of meditating on that, divided into: establishing the meaning of selflessness to be realized through reasoning; and how to settle the stream of realizing wisdom in equanimity. The first part is divided into: the actual topic; and from the great Madhyamaka treatises
