Ma. It is said that to counteract excitement, one should meditate on generating aversion, etc. By meditating on the six recollections, etc., one can eliminate dullness, and great power of habituation is also needed to maintain a clear state. Since we have not yet reached that level, the only antidote to both is to meditate on the recollection of death. By meditating on this, dullness can be dealt with as effectively as splashing cold water on the face of someone who is falling asleep. As for excitement, it can be dealt with as effectively as hearing the news of one's father's death in the midst of a grand performance, leaving no time to enjoy the show. The Compendium of Trainings also says that this is the antidote to both. As for the antidote to dullness, as mentioned during the practice of calm abiding, one can increase the weight of the body, gently touch the body with a cane, throw pebbles, place a lamp in front, stretch out the legs, stretch out both legs, grab the rosary and move the beads, and so on. One should also pay attention to diet. Meditate in thin clothes, in a cool place, under a clear sky, and in high places. Wash the face. When there is neither dullness nor excitement, one should remain in a state of equanimity, which is necessary to rest in a continuous state. If one meditates continuously, one may not even want to meditate later. Just seeing the bed may make one feel nauseous. Similarly, if it goes on like that, one will lose interest. Meditation is like snatching food from the mouth of power, so at first, meditate for short periods with many sessions. Then, gradually lengthen the duration of each session and reduce the number of sessions. After that, engage in the yoga of four sessions. By extending the time, one can reach the state of day and night yoga. In the past, when Geshe Potowa asked Gyalwa Drakpa Gyaltsen for instructions on the Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment, he also said that one can apply the recollection of impermanence, etc., to all phenomena. If there is no samadhi on impermanence, one will cling to this life alone. In that case, as mentioned before, there is no difference from animals, and if even this life cannot be brought to completion, what need is there to mention the next life? If there is impermanence, everything will arise from karma and its results to the ultimate realization of no birth. If there is no samadhi focused on karma and its results, because one does not believe in karma and its results, in order not to despise karma and its results, it is only for the sake of a good rebirth in the future.

If that (calm abiding and insight) is not accomplished, what need is there to mention anything else? If it exists, it will arise from obtaining a good rebirth to ultimately realizing the nature of dependent origination as unborn. If there is no samadhi on the faults of samsara, one cannot even liberate oneself from samsara, so what need is there to mention liberating others? If it exists, one will also attain one's own liberation, and all the Mahayana teachings, such as loving-kindness and compassion, will arise. If there is no samadhi of loving-kindness and compassion, it will not transform into the Mahayana. If it exists, it is the root of the Mahayana. If there is a samadhi of the mind of enlightenment, then all the benefits previously shown will arise, and if not, then the faults opposite to them will arise. If there is no samadhi of emptiness, one will not abandon the clinging to substantiality, so one cannot even be liberated from samsara, how can one attain omniscient wisdom? If it exists, one will abandon all the opposing factors that are the root of clinging to substantiality, and without obstacles, all qualities will arise, and compassion will also arise for sentient beings who have not awakened, and after having firm faith in this, it is said that all arising, such as aspiration, should be combined as before. Fourth, the teaching that clairvoyance arises from the accomplishment of calm abiding: When a yogi has accomplished calm abiding, clairvoyance and the like will also be accomplished. It is said, that is, as mentioned above, abiding in the accumulation and branches of calm abiding, for any object that is in accordance with one's karma, etc., abandoning it with the aspect of the five faults and the eight antidotes, the yogi who places his mind on virtue, when the actual practice of calm abiding meditation is accomplished, not only is it accomplished itself, but after obtaining the extremely pure fourth dhyana, non-conceptual wisdom is completely grasped, and how to focus on various aspects, by this power is accomplished, and one will be able to obtain the supreme deity. As the aspect said in the Ornament of the Sutras, because one wants to obtain clairvoyance that knows the realm of miraculous powers, so meditating on the body being as light as cotton, etc., relying on the mental activity of each aspect, the clairvoyance that is desired will also be accomplished. Therefore, by the power of it, one's own accumulation of enlightenment will be completed and the benefit of all sentient beings will be accomplished. That is to say, Sharawa said about this, empty monastery
