Entering after careful examination, and not entering if there are obstacles. Being mindful at the beginning of all actions, and when engaging in conduct, the state of body and mind should be repeatedly examined. In short, that alone is the characteristic of guarding mindfulness. As it is said in the scriptures, all actions of body, speech, and mind should be grasped with mindfulness and awareness, so that taking and abandoning are done without error. This is the mindfulness that accompanies practice. Among these, the first three are for remedying after a fall, and the latter two are for preventing errors from arising. Ninth, complete ritual: For immediate tasks, such as the affairs of robes and alms bowls, one should act in a way that is not criticized by worldly scholars and does not contradict the holy Dharma Vinaya. The same applies to all four postures. As it is said, the fivefold of profound instructions and the four categories, etc., should be practiced. The same applies to virtuous activities, such as meditation and reading. Putowa said: We do not have the basis to understand or discuss all of this as Dharma. When walking, we look in all four directions like losing an ox in the evening. Our steps are faltering and staggering. When we gather together, we speak in a way that cannot be confronted, as if we have won a battle. Tenth, complete livelihood: In the Teacher's Precious Garland, it says: 'Controlling the senses for gain and respect; speaking softly first for gain and respect; flattering to obtain, praising the possessions of others; measuring by gain for the sake of gain; openly slandering others for gain; desiring to gain more with what is gained; praising what was previously gained.' Like this, abandon the five wrong livelihoods, abandon living by the four kinds of agriculture, and even abandon trading for a living. Because teaching the Dharma is also counted as trading for a living, abandon all of that. At noon, only accept the small amount of food that is placed in your hands during alms rounds. Do not even think about where tomorrow's livelihood will come from. That is true practice. Now, whose eyes are sharper and whose speed is faster?

Those who have gone to act have nothing. It seems that even a mouthful of food or a sip of drink cannot be obtained through improper means for someone as fortunate as you. From the day one promises to keep the vows, one must learn from everyone. Therefore, the Buddha said that even one who has taken vows for a hundred years, one who takes vows today should also learn from him. Sharawa said that even a small misdeed will hinder the attainment of omniscience for the benefit of others, so abandon it. Similarly, regarding the discipline of accumulating virtuous dharmas, Putowa said that the standard for perfectly accumulating virtuous dharmas is to have ten abidings. The five abidings of the five perfections, and the five of wisdom, are ten. Among these, the five abidings of wisdom also seem to focus on temporary cause and effect. Therefore, even if all the scriptures are placed under its control, it will ultimately become the abiding of ultimate wisdom. Sharawa said that the abiding of generosity is: not to accept even the slightest attachment to the body and possessions. If one accepts attachment to the body, one needs possessions as a condition for it, so one will also be attached to possessions and unable to give. Therefore, as the poem says: For the body and life that will eventually be abandoned, like dew on water and grass, if one is not attached for a long time, when will one attain great bliss? Like this, even if one takes care of the body and nourishes it with possessions, it will never help to avoid sickness and death. One can never abandon it. Because it is perishable, it is like water; because it is impermanent, it is like dew on grass. The more the body is nourished by possessions, the more the dirt increases. Sickness will also recur, and aging will also increase. If one gets sick, one needs more treatment and medicine. If one does not take good care of it, the situation will be reversed. If one does not abandon attachment to the body and possessions, one will not attain a good rebirth in the future. Considering that the fault of stinginess will lead to rebirth as a hungry ghost, do not accept attachment to them. In this way, because one is not attached to the body, one is also not attached to possessions, and thus one is able to give, which is the abiding, meaning the cause. The abiding of discipline is: not to accept the arising of afflictions and near afflictions. It is impossible for a beginner not to arise at all, but...
