He said both are fine. The fourth and fifth precepts are: abandoning the cause of the decline of Bodhicitta, which is abandoning the abandonment of sentient beings, and abandoning the four black dharmas and practicing their antidotes, the four white dharmas. As it is said in the sutra: "In order to remember in future lives, the precepts as spoken must be completely guarded." Sharawa said: The last two precepts refer to the two lines, "This also remembers in other lives." If one obtains the aspiration Bodhicitta in this life and does not lose it, then in the future, one may remember past lives and manifest it. Even if it does not happen that way, it can be manifested simply by stimulating memory. Thus, in order not to forget this precious Bodhicitta, which possesses immeasurable necessity and merit, just as it is generated in this life through the two perfect ways of intention and action, in future lives and even further lives, in order to remember, not only the above three precepts, but also if any of the four root downfalls and eight root downfalls of individual liberation, and the eight places of downfall such as the root downfall in Entering the Bodhisattva's Way occur, just as abandoning those vows, one must abandon abandoning sentient beings; if any of the four black dharmas occur, one must abandon the aspiration Bodhicitta. If these five situations occur, it is more serious than the root downfall of individual liberation, and in order to prevent these from happening, as it is said in the Sutra Requested by Lightly Protected, the precepts are: abandoning the abandonment of sentient beings, abandoning the four black dharmas, and practicing their antidotes, the four white dharmas, these two last precepts must also be completely guarded without wavering. Among them, regarding the fourth, abandoning the abandonment of sentient beings, the great Putowa said that the characteristic of abandoning the abandonment of sentient beings at that time is to be displeased and lack compassion towards any sentient being for any reason. At that time, worldly people say, "You and I, when alive, do not face each other's doors, and when dead, do not face each other's graves," just like that, even if they have the ability to help, they do not help, and even if they have the ability to prevent reckless behavior, they do not prevent it. Because the vows of individual liberation are obtained from all sentient beings, if one kills a human being with complete limbs, it is like abandoning the vows obtained from all sentient beings.

Therefore, the mind of enlightenment is obtained from all sentient beings. Although the love and compassion for all other sentient beings do not diminish, if one abandons a single sentient being, exceeding a certain limit, then the mind of enlightenment obtained from all sentient beings will vanish. Even abandoning a tiny animal will result in losing the mind of enlightenment. Therefore, as an antidote to this, one should constantly cultivate love and compassion for all sentient beings, especially targeting those sentient beings whom one is likely to abandon. From the beginning, one should be cautious to avoid conflicts with anyone. Now is the most important time to protect one's own mind from being harmed, so even actions based on benefiting sentient beings should be reduced, let alone other things. Benefiting others requires the guidance of a lama. Without the guidance of a lama, compassion is likely to turn into hatred. If there are too many actions, conflicts are likely to arise. Even if conflicts arise, one should especially target that person and cultivate love and compassion, and within a certain limit, one should be as gentle as possible. It is said that Scholar Wang Singh in Ra Treng Monastery developed an unpleasant feeling towards someone, so he cultivated love towards that person, and as a result, the next day when he met that person, he became very happy. Just as Geshe Mangrawa constantly asked others for forgiveness, this is a key instruction. It is never possible for us to avoid conflicts with others. If one remains silent within a certain limit, and considers it a virtue, saying that it is to gain the warmth of practice, then it is difficult to subdue it with antidotes even within a certain limit. As it is said, "First examine your abilities, then decide whether to start acting or not. Not starting is the best, but once you start, do not retreat." Therefore, first, as mentioned before, understand all the teachings, and make sure that you can integrate them into your practice, then take the vow. After taking the vow, even if you cannot do it completely, you should try your best. It is like saying, "It is good if you can do it, and you must do it even if you cannot do it." There is no fault in abandoning those who cannot be tamed, like Jo-bum, because even if you abandon them, you will not truly abandon them in your heart. As long as your own mind is without fault, there is no fault in not being able to help others. Because Jowo Rinpoche (Atisha) fulfilled the wishes of Jnana-bi, so...
