Having now renounced, at midday, one takes only what comes into the palm of one's hand when begging for alms. If one no longer contemplates where tomorrow's livelihood will come from, that is true renunciation. Now, those who are sharp-eyed and quick-footed gain nothing. No matter how fortunate one is, if one does not maintain oneself with wrong livelihood, one will not receive even a mouthful of food or a sip of drink. Regarding the discipline of vows, from the day one vows that there is no postponement, one must learn from everyone. Therefore, even if one has taken full ordination for a hundred years, one should learn from someone who has taken full ordination today. Sharawa said that even a tiny misdeed obstructs the attainment of omniscience for the sake of others, so it must be abandoned. Similarly, regarding the discipline of accumulating virtue, Putowa said that the perfection of the ten qualities of abiding near is the measure of accumulating virtue well. The five qualities of abiding near for the five perfections, and the five of wisdom, making ten. Among these ten, the five of wisdom seem to focus on the impermanence of cause and effect, so even if all the scriptures are placed under its dominion, it will ultimately become the abiding near of ultimate wisdom. Sharawa said that the abiding near of generosity is: not to accept even the slightest attachment to body and possessions. If one accepts attachment to the body, one needs possessions as a condition for it, so one will also be attached to possessions and unable to give them up. Therefore, like this: 'To this body and life that will be abandoned, like dew on water and grass. If one becomes accustomed to detachment for a long time, when will one attain great bliss?' Even if one cares for the body and nourishes it with possessions, it will never prevent sickness and death. One can never abandon it. Because it is fragile, it is like water; because it is impermanent, it is like dew on grass. The more one nourishes this body with possessions, the more swelling it becomes, sickness returns, and aging becomes more severe. If sickness arises, one needs extra treatment and medicine. If one treats it poorly, it will be the opposite. If one does not abandon attachment to body and possessions, one will not have a good rebirth in the future. Considering the faults of miserliness that lead to rebirth as a hungry ghost, one should not accept attachment to them. Thus, because one does not care for the body, one also does not
