Therefore, in order to purify the pure land, one's own body, speech, and mind must be pure. On the basis of the common abandonment of the ten non-virtuous deeds, as it is said when abandoning fruitless actions, for the actions of body and speech, whatever cannot be transformed into the benefit of others and the accumulation of all-knowing wisdom, must also be abandoned, and at all times, one must purify oneself so as not to be defiled by those faults. Similarly, for the actions of the mind, one must abandon afflictions, non-virtuous thoughts, not caring for sentient beings but only striving for one's own liberation, and all attachments to the three spheres even when practicing great Bodhi. In short, even if there is compassion, it is accompanied by attachment to reality, even if one practices emptiness, it is not embraced by compassion, and everything that does not possess the essence of compassion must be abandoned and purified. In short, in brief, do not do any non-virtuous actions of the three doors. Just as the noble Manjushri promised before the Tathagata Dragon Sound King, one must also promise and vow before the Buddhas of the ten directions. Regarding this, Sharawa said: If there is no place, the promise made by oneself before the Buddhas of the ten directions is also clearly recorded in the treatises of the noble ones. Here, this situation arises: if there is a place, it is the rule of the noble ones; if there is no place, it is the rule of the Acharya, thus distinguishing them. Just as the Pratimoksha vows differ in their rituals due to different schools, leading to different boundaries for the acquisition and protection of vows, are these two rules also different in their boundaries of protection and acquisition of vows due to different rituals? Even if the rituals are different, it is for the purpose of making those meanings that are not different. Then, what is the true meaning of the many or few root downfalls that are spoken of? The rule of the noble ones is the true meaning. As the eight types of initial practitioners mentioned in the Sutra of Akashagarbha mostly belong to the precepts of aspiration. Those of kings and ministers mostly belong to the common Pratimoksha vows. For those who preach emptiness to sentient beings who have not practiced mind training, some are shown as root downfalls considering the severity of the offense. Even if those occur, the vows will not be lost. Therefore, the rule of the noble ones is the true meaning. In this way, the vows are promised. Third, the method of learning the precepts, the relationship of learning the precepts, and the precepts themselves.
