To be completely liberated from samsara and attain perfect enlightenment is the vow of aspiration. This is what Sharawa said. Next is the vow of entering into practice. The vows of a Bodhisattva are taken with unbearable love and compassion for all sentient beings. These two, hatred and its retinue, are the cause of abandoning sentient beings. If one accepts these, there is a risk of abandoning the aspiration and a risk of fundamental downfall. If the aspiration is abandoned, the practice is also abandoned because the basis is abandoned. Just as abandoning refuge leads to abandoning individual liberation. Therefore, towards myself and my spiritual friends, harm has been done in the past, is being done now, and will be done in the future, these three situations make six. Towards those who are not friendly to me, benefit has been bestowed in the past, is being bestowed now, and will be bestowed in the future, these three situations make nine. From these nine situations arise all things that torment the mind, the intention to harm, and the anger that immediately harms and agitates the mind. The body, resources, and all roots of virtue of a Bodhisattva are dedicated to sentient beings, and the omniscient wisdom, the fruit of practice for three countless eons, is also dedicated to the benefit of sentient beings. If one clings to one's own meager possessions and cannot give to others, accepting such miserliness also carries the risk of a fundamental downfall. Therefore, such miserliness, and: "All sentient beings desire happiness, Having generated the mind for enlightenment, When sentient beings find happiness themselves, Why do you alone become angry? If they do not wish to go to that place, Is it reasonable for you to want them to go?" According to this reasoning, a Bodhisattva generates the mind to lead all sentient beings to perfect enlightenment. If one is now agitated by even the slightest perfection of others, this is contradictory. Therefore, from the moment of accepting the vow of entering into practice until the attainment of perfect enlightenment, one should not do these things. That is to say, in the individual liberation vows of a Bodhisattva, it is said that a Bodhisattva does not have the four faults of deceit, miserliness, jealousy, slander, and the timidity of thinking that one cannot achieve omniscience. If one claims to be a Bodhisattva while possessing these four faults, that is hypocrisy.

In short, these four are the main symbols. It is not possible to accept all fifty-seven items mentioned in the Ratnavali. Because for the initial practitioner, it is not possible to ensure that none of these arise in the continuum. As stated in the Vinaya section, there is no fault in the afflictions being strong, suppressed, and then arising again and again. However, it is not possible to accept them as soon as they arise; just like a black snake spreading poison quickly, or like an untamed female yak, they must be abandoned. Branka Jotsun asked Geshe Tonpa, "What should I do when I cannot abandon them like that?" He replied, "If you cannot abandon them like that, you cannot promise to join." This is what Sharawa the Great said. Regarding the meaning of Brahmacharya, the Abhidharma of the True Dharma states that Brahma refers to Nirvana, and it is called Brahmacharya because one studies to attain Nirvana. Here, in the Prajnaparamita Sutra, it says, "Does a Bodhisattva need sons and wives?" Some need sons and wives, and some do not, existing in the form of a youth. As Sharawa said, among the two types of Bodhisattvas, those who attain Buddhahood in the form of a youth and those who do not, the Blessed One Manjushri attained Buddhahood in the form of a youth, as promised. Therefore, "practicing Brahmacharya" means promising not to be defiled by worldly dharmas until Buddhahood is attained. Attaining Buddhahood not in the form of a youth means holding the greatest possible capacity for the benefit of sentient beings. Like the prayer of Yerpa, we must vow as before. In Radreng, one person jokingly said to a companion of varying status, asking Geshe Tonpa, "From the Nepalese man carving stones above to the Han Chinese woman weaving cloth below, can one be a merchant without exceeding the boundaries? Can one own about a hundred women and also be a virtuous monk?" He replied, "If the wisdom of the path of seeing arises, then it is possible." Before that, it is a teaching that cannot be done. As stated in the Dashabhumika Sutra, obtaining the ground.
