From the Vinaya of the Sarvāstivāda School: The Blessed One saw someone paying homage to the hair and nail stupa of the Tathāgata Kāśyapa. The Blessed One said to the attendant Ānanda, "Look at that person." Ānanda replied, "I see him." The Blessed One said, "That person, with the five lower limbs touching the earth, will obtain the reward of a cakravartin king multiplied by a thousand times the number of atoms up to the golden wheel." Ānanda then asked, "If there are many who pay homage, but the reward of a cakravartin king is small, where does the root of virtue reside?" The Blessed One replied, "It is because pure conduct is exhausted by relying on moonlight." Therefore, friends say that only something unchanging is important. Therefore, the great Geshe Potowa also said that in the past, a bodhisattva was needed in all things. Later, if someone vows to attain omniscient wisdom, then whether born or not born, whether lost after birth or not lost, one should maintain equanimity. He also said that the extent of anger is enough to provoke all faults of speech. Some say that faults are like the shallow wisdom of worldly people, limited to that extent. The antidote to this is to generate respect for the teacher Buddha, and even if it is not the Buddha, one should generate respect, because there is no difference between him and the body of the Buddha. The cause of his actions is common, like the waxing moon. Not knowing the fact that there is no real Buddha, if it is for the benefit of sentient beings, he will appear in any form. Regarding merits, one cannot judge by true or false, so one should speak truthfully about what is in one's mind, without fabricating or slandering. The sin of slander is very great, as mentioned before. Even fabrication will lead to wandering around. There is no need to proclaim everywhere, but one should proclaim in whichever of the four modes of conduct one is engaged in. In the Sutra of the Samadhi of Heroic Progress, it is recorded: The noble Mahākāśyapa said, "We do not know which sentient beings have the faculties to be fully ripened into enlightenment and which do not. From now on, we will generate respect for the teacher in all sentient beings." Just as he vowed, one must rely on the vow alone. We do not know whether we are bodhisattvas or not, and our inner selves are on the verge of collapse.

Because it is ripe, obscured by the evil karma that is destined to be experienced countless times in the future, so that one does not even know that it appears as immature, like a fire covered by ashes. In particular, even the superior may appear inferior in his own manifestation. Or, because of need, he may appear inferior, and he may also hide his merits. There is also no difference between all sentient beings and the nature of the Buddha. The Buddha has already accepted it. If these two can be achieved, then all the laws of harm that depend on the individual mentioned in the Compendium of Trainings will not occur. Third, for any sentient being, the act of deceiving with the intention of deception, if it exceeds a certain amount of time, whether or not it can be deceived, will lose bodhicitta. The extent of the deception is like the steward of Yeshe turning coarse sugar into refined sugar, like the back wall of Tölung (modern Doilungdêqên District of Lhasa), everyone says the same. If you don't do that, you don't seem to appear yourself. If one's own desires are ultimately mixed in, even when offering tea, oil cakes, and sweet cakes, there is a risk of deception, which can lead to dangers in dedication. If there is no self-interest, but only the thought of benefiting sentient beings, even killing will not only not be sinful, but will also increase a lot of merit, so it is good. The key to distinguishing between self-interest and altruism lies here. If one cannot cut off the conceptual thoughts of this life, it is difficult to protect all four black dharmas. Its antidote is to constantly cultivate the superior intention of benefiting all sentient beings without deception and wanting to place them in benefit and happiness, or to say that benefit is happiness beyond the world, or it can be said to be worldly happiness, meaning that benefit is lasting happiness. Fourth, for virtuous deeds that are not a cause of regret for others, if one does them with the intention of generating regret, whether or not regret arises, if it exceeds a certain amount of time, one will lose bodhicitta. No matter what kind of virtuous deed it is, no matter in what way the thought of generating regret arises, regret will arise in various ways. In particular, if one sees a close relative making a very large donation, because one is not able to do it oneself, one will feel sad and say, "Being generous is good, but I am poor. I can't do it when I'm old, and I can't do it when I'm sick."
