Through cultivation, wisdom gradually increases, thereby cutting off all that should be abandoned, and ultimately reaching the state of perfection, which is called Buddha. If the Dharma is divided into the Three Jewels, then it is divided very well. Later, in the Ornament of the Mahayana Sutras, it is said: "With faith, joy, and wisdom as the cause, this Dharma is good. The meaning possesses both (benefit and happiness), is easy to understand, possesses four qualities, and teaches pure conduct." It also speaks of the arising of wisdom. If one does not fully understand the meaning of this Dharma oneself, then lamas and others who have become the Sangha will teach it, so the Sangha is also very kind to us. Even among them, it is only the Sangha of ordinary beings. Through it, one can also understand the characteristics of the Buddha, through it, one can also increase understanding of the Dharma, through it, one can also take refuge in the Buddha, and through it, one can also enter the gate of the Dharma. It is the field of merit for beings to accumulate, the guide for those seeking liberation, and one should constantly take refuge, both verbally and mentally. At the very least, do it three times a day and three times at night. Even reciting just one sentence, the merit is unimaginable. The people of Kham said: Constantly taking refuge is what should be done. Now, when we walk, we take refuge, when we sit, we take refuge, when we sleep, we take refuge, when we wake up, we take refuge, when we are sick, we take refuge, and when we are not sick, we take refuge. One needs to constantly recite the refuge. What merit will come from doing that? Now, starting to recite, even when sick, one will naturally, "Ah-no, ah-no," recite: I take refuge in the Buddha! I take refuge in the Dharma! I take refuge in the Sangha! If one is not accustomed to it from the beginning, it will not come. Taking refuge when sick, one will also take refuge at the time of death. Taking refuge at the time of death, one will also take refuge in the bardo. Taking refuge in the bardo, one will also take refuge in the next life. Such a person will not be born in the lower realms. If someone says they were born in the lower realms, then because of taking refuge, they will quickly be liberated. If one dies remembering the Three Jewels, then the moment of death is good. If one dies remembering the Three Jewels, then the signs of death are good. If one dies remembering the Three Jewels,

Since one will definitely not be reborn in the lower realms, one should do good deeds in the next life. Taking refuge constantly is like a fish being caught by a cormorant. The fish caught by the cormorant and the whale seem to float together in the sea, but when the fisherman comes, the cormorant's fish stretches out on the dry land. The whale floats away in the sea. Similarly, those who have taken refuge and those who have not seem to be together in samsara, but when the disciples of the Buddha are ready, those who have taken refuge will quickly emerge. Those who have not taken refuge will float away in samsara, it is said. The second common teaching is to constantly make offerings to the Three Jewels, and to make offerings with the essence of what one eats and drinks. As Sharawa said: In general, according to the practice of Dharma, one should act as if one does nothing other than constantly making offerings to the Three Jewels. If the former exists, the latter will also come. One should remember in one's heart as if one has nothing to do other than making offerings to the Three Jewels at all times. Although it is easy to keep vows, it is even easier to make offerings to the Buddha. The benefits are also greater. Keeping vows, due to the difference in thoughts, can also become a cause for lower good rebirths and liberation. If dedicated to perfect enlightenment, it is only a cause for that. To the Buddha, even if one makes offerings with the thought of only this life, or dedicates them wrongly, in the end, it will become a cause for omniscience. At all times of eating and drinking, if one offers the essence to the Three Jewels, then eating and drinking will always become abundant. At all those times, remembering them, generating faith and respect, will bring immeasurable merit and so on. For example, even if one drinks a cup of water from Mopa Tsangpo, one should offer the essence of that cup of water to the Three Jewels. Even if one drinks a cup of Lopa leaves, it is the same. If one cannot share valuable things from a young age, then offer tsampa. Even if it is someone else's leftovers, since it is the first thing one has obtained in one's hand, one should offer its essence. In short, one should not put anything in one's mouth without offering the essence to the Three Jewels. Offering moldy green food and yellow leaves is not acceptable. One should offer delicious food. Offering sour essence to everyone, like dusting, is not acceptable. One should offer the essence itself, it is said. Third, one should continue to make offerings on special days, this is also Sharawa's own words.
