is for amusement. We seem to do anything for amusement with the Dharma, and disrespect towards the Dharma and its speakers is the cause of degenerate wisdom. The current ignorance is enough; do not create more causes for ignorance. What could be more ignorant than this? As it is said, there is no refuge in disrespecting and playing with the Dharma, so one should have faith and respect even for a single letter of the Dharma. There should be no opportunity for disrespectful actions such as pawning or pricing it. The people of Kham say that even a Dharma book or a scripture of four lines or more should be revered even in one's bosom; otherwise, it is not permissible to treat the Dharma lightly. But we now discard them, pawn them, and even use them as padding up to the place of swearing oaths. In India, all who invite the scriptures place them on the top of their heads and invite them. Otherwise, they place them on their shoulders and invite them. We pile them up haphazardly, tie them with mule ropes or black ropes, rest them on stones, and then smear them with tsampa and oil, and throw them aside. It is very bad not to cherish the Dharma. When the scriptures arrive, one must stand up immediately. It is said that if one does not stand up, one will be reborn as a prostitute. Similarly, even for the signs of the Sangha, merely wearing Dharma robes or having yellow patches, one should avoid disrespect such as sectarian bias and show great respect. Sharawo said that even for a Sangha member with just a yellow patch, one should regard them as the Teacher, Shakyamuni Buddha. If one rejoices in others being great and is not jealous of their perfections, one's own status will also increase, one's glory will increase, and one's abilities will increase. If one always respects the Sangha, one will meet the Sangha in the future, and one will also become a member of the Sangha. There is no one who despises everything else and thinks only of himself who does not fall into a lower state. There is no one who wants to eat all the best things who does not end up not even tasting the leftovers. Now, in words, they say: Just wearing Dharma robes, one should be worshipped like the Teacher. But in reality, they cheat those who wear yellow robes, and it is said that there is no refuge for such people in the Sangha. Next are the four common precepts. First, having taken refuge in the Three Jewels, one should always

One should recollect the qualities of the Three Jewels and also learn to take refuge in words. Sharawa Chenpo said: One should recollect the qualities of the Buddha's causal stage, fruition stage, and activities; the qualities of the Dharma's teachings, practice, and realization; and all the qualities of the Sangha from the initial generation of the mind of enlightenment up to the mastery of the ten bhumis. Furthermore, Geshe himself said: When the Buddha was in the causal stage, he was universally encouraged by great compassion and first generated the mind of enlightenment. Then, for endless periods of time, he practiced immeasurable hardships, all of which he thought were solely for my sake. By doing so, the result is that he will be able to reach the ultimate end of abandonment (of afflictions) and the perfection of wisdom. He has attained countless qualities such as the power, fearlessness, great compassion, and never forgetting what we need. In terms of activities, until sentient beings are not empty, he spontaneously accomplishes the benefit of others and does not cease continuously. One should contemplate in this way. Never forgetting and never ceasing are also the key to spontaneous accomplishment. If effort is needed, one will forget and then come back. If one contemplates the qualities of the Buddha in this way, then the qualities of the Three Jewels are also completely contained within them. In the causal stage, it is the Sangha; in both the causal and resultant stages, it is the Dharma that is possessed in the continuum; and the self-nature is the Buddha. If one believes in this way, one will not fail to make offerings and take refuge. The Buddha, the fruit of Buddhahood alone, is the Dharma of the twelve branches of scripture. Those who have obtained the dharanis hold them and record them in writing. The previous translators and royal ministers carried the scriptures and invited them here from India, experiencing immeasurable hardships, and translated, proofread, and revised them. For the benefit of future generations, they were enshrined here. Without these, what would we know? Apart from living like animals, the slight increase in the light of wisdom is also the kindness of the Dharma, so it is called the common lamp. If one practices according to the Dharma, even someone who was an extreme enemy yesterday will become a benefactor from today's ordination, all of which is the merit of practicing the Dharma. These and so on are countless. Practice
