It should be done accordingly. Even a minor offense, once opened, will sink into the ocean of existence. It is impossible to reach the land of Nirvana. Therefore, generating renunciation from existence, relying on the thought of Nirvana to ordain, and having them study the precepts, these are all the duties of the Khenpo. The meaning of the word "Upadhyaya" is "to do," meaning to cause people to generate renunciation from samsara, to give firm thoughts of Nirvana, and to give teachings on higher precepts. Just as a person who makes pottery from clay is called a potter, a person who transforms ordinary people into Arhats is called a Khenpo. But now, the Khenpo and Acharya neither train the mind nor guide, and they ordain people without asking about obstacles. Some people choose to ordain simply because they feel happy in this life and can ascend to heaven in the next. But before long, they will forget the gods of the next life, forget the happiness of this life, and eventually fall into suffering. The rest are troubled by relatives, lords, creditors, and enemies, their lives are unsettled, they are haunted by demons, and they are bullied by their fathers or brothers, and in the end, they achieve nothing. When worldly relatives fight, they ask about each other's origins, wealth, and who is behind them. Similarly, the Sangha and the Khenpo Acharya also ask about the other person's family, poverty, and character. Nowadays, if someone is poor, they don't even look at the other person's family, and they ordain all those with obstacles. Among these three, only whether the other person's family and foundation are good is the most important. Geshe Tonpa also said that character should be the foundation of everything. Those who have no foundation and have obstacles, after ordaining, will eventually become a burden to the Sangha. If they are too poor, they will eventually return to lay life. If their character is not good, they will also return to lay life. Now we are like this, so if those who have ordained do not commit fundamental transgressions in the middle, and can meet someone who can train their mind like an old layperson, then according to Jowo Rinpoche, "There is no need to repeat the ceremony, just keep it as it is." If pure intention is not generated at the time of receiving the novice vows, then even if the mind is trained later, it will not be enough, and the ceremony must be repeated from the beginning. This is what is said in the Vinaya.

It is more important than not needing to repeat the ritual, because it is very important, so it is not right to repeat and act carelessly. As Jowo said, it is said in the biography of the noble Ananda: Initially, before the Blessed One turned away, because he was the last existence, he received full ordination through "Bhikkhu, come here." After that, he kept the vows, and within seven days in the lotus family, he obtained the wheel-turning king of power, and had no other thought than wanting to rule the country. The Blessed One led him back and forth in various ways. By showing the thirty-three heavens, he was freed from attachment to consorts and the throne. At that time, he became interested in the afterlife, became extremely respectful of the training, but was again included in the ranks of those who broke the vows. By showing hell, he was also freed from attachment to it. After that, by gradually showing the sufferings of humans, he became disgusted with all existence, and became a discipline of definite renunciation, and attained Arhatship without repeating the previous ritual. Now we have gone far away, saying that we should rely on virtuous friends and study, etc., but everyone's thoughts cannot rise above the level of Ananda not seeing the thirty-three heavens. After learning from a virtuous friend who is like a close brother, one thinks of returning to one's hometown to seek wealth, build relationships, and raise one's status. After returning, one makes the same people who were friends and enemies when one was a layman into enemies and friends again. The same enjoyments that one had as a layman are what one enjoys again later. When looking at books in the Ragama monastery, they say that there are crows everywhere in Ragama, and then they shut their mouths. All of us are like that. There is no difference between the external behavior of Ananda and Kunga (transliteration of Ananda), but the inner thoughts are very different. We also seem to be very determined outwardly, but in our hearts we are thinking of returning home, building relationships, raising our status, and wanting to use relationships with people and relationships with gods, etc. With just such thoughts, the vows taken and kept will not become the path to liberation. Taking and keeping vows must be accompanied by the mind of renunciation as mentioned above. Therefore, wanting to hinder the study of higher discipline, one must also contemplate the faults of all internal and external desires and abandon desires. The faults of desire also lead to behavior.
