It is said that at that time, one should learn all the complete aspects of skillful means. It is also said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara that everything from the mind of enlightenment to meditation is the meaning of wisdom. Furthermore, it is said that if conventional truths do not exist, the ultimate truth cannot be realized, and all of these are the meaning of skillful means. We, who call ourselves great Madhyamikas, say that we do not need anything, but not all teachings say so. When meditating with skillful means in this way, it is important to stabilize the skillful means without destroying the view of self. As it is said in the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning: "In seeking that, one should first say that everything exists. Having understood the meanings and being without attachment, later it is emptiness." Lord Atisha also said, as it is said in the Vimalakirti Sutra: "The view of the aggregates is the seed of the Tathagata." Therefore, first meditate on the impermanence of going from this world to the next, and then seek refuge in fear and dread, and meditate on taking refuge in the Buddha. Then, meditate on the Dharma protecting by protecting with Dharma, and if I do this karma, I will be born in the lower realms, and so on. Sometimes, after meditating on impermanence, meditate on how much suffering one will experience if one is born in the three lower realms from this world. Then, knowing that only the Three Jewels can protect me from the suffering of the three lower realms, meditate on taking refuge in them. Then, knowing that they protect from the lower realms by protecting from the cause of the lower realms, know the causes of the lower realms and the higher realms, and then abandon the causes of the lower realms and practice the causes of the higher realms. Then, meditate on being weary of impermanence and the suffering of the continuity of cause and effect in samsara, and then wanting to be liberated from it. And, meditate on all sentient beings having been my mother when wandering in samsara, and when I was their mother, they were tormented by various sufferings, and then measure it with one's own experience and meditate on compassion. Then, from that, take it all together and generate the great mind of enlightenment, thinking that I must attain Buddhahood myself for the sake of establishing all sentient beings in Buddhahood. Then, my...

In order to attain great Bodhi for the benefit of other beings, I understand that I must enter into its cause, take the vows of entry, and study its precepts, namely the higher training in discipline and the higher training in mind. When these methods are stable, one cannot attain omniscience by relying solely on methods without abandoning the clinging to reality. And also knowing that samsara is long, the number of sentient beings to be tamed is vast, and their actions are evil, and that one is extremely tormented by the suffering of one's own samsara. Like the story of the monkey, thinking that I cannot bear the burden of countless sentient beings in endless samsara, one becomes discouraged, and there is even a danger of compassion itself diminishing. Therefore, first meditate on the selflessness of the person in one's own continuum. Even if one meditates in this way, until loving-kindness and compassion become stable, still cling to sentient beings as the reality of a person, and cultivate loving-kindness and compassion. Then, when one thinks that all sentient beings and their sufferings are real, and that one cannot even eliminate the suffering of sentient beings, and sorrow arises, then meditate that other sentient beings also do not exist as the reality of a person. Then, even if one achieves the reality of a single dharma, thinking that one cannot eliminate the suffering of existing as a reality, then meditate that neither oneself nor all sentient beings exist as the selflessness of phenomena. These two are cultivated in sequence, like informing the king of the death of the queen. The king was attached to the queen's perfect beauty and was inevitably immersed in it. Because of some need, the king went to fight in another place, and the queen died. If the king were told from the beginning, he would vomit blood and die, and great sorrow would arise. Therefore, a minister skilled in means sent a messenger to ask the king if he was well, and the king replied that everything else was fine, except that the queen had a large boil on her forehead. Then, a second, third, and even fourth messenger were sent, and when they asked as before, they learned that the boil had turned into a pustule, the pustule had spread and covered the face, and the queen's face had ulcerated, leaving only bones. This was repeatedly told until the king's mind began to change, and he thought that it would be better if the queen had already died. At this time, the king was informed that the queen had passed away.
