3. The Meaning of the Text. 3. The Meaning of the Text. Prostration and initiating the cause of the arising of the treatise, the characteristics of the three types of individuals who are the basis of practice, the means of practicing the practice, and the meaning of the conclusion of the completed composition, are the four points. 1) Prostration and initiating the cause of the arising of the treatise. Among these, there are two aspects: prostration and initiation. First, prostration. "To all the Buddhas of the three times, their Dharma, and the Sangha, I prostrate with great reverence." It is said. Among these, there are two explanations: the meaning of the necessity and the meaning of the words. First, the necessity of prostrating to the Three Jewels, the object of faith, before composing the treatise is to avert obstacles and to ensure the completion of the composition, and to conform to the virtuous. Regarding this, the great Sharawa said, "Jowo's faith, born from knowing the Three Jewels, is like the distance from Vajrasana to the capital of Sindh is not far. When he traveled around, he also invited the stupa now located in Sangpu Monastery to go with him. As soon as a feeling of boredom arose in his mind, he immediately arranged a mandala, made offerings, prostrated, and made offerings. After praying, his mind calmed down and he continued on his way." Since this is the case, such a treatise with great significance that opens the eyes of the entire Tibet, even if it is not written down, will surely be accompanied by grand prostrations and offerings. The necessity of prostration has also been established, so there have been no obstacles to the composition, and until now the entire Tibet has been very devout in listening and speaking, and this is what they are doing. Jowo wrote the words of prostration to the Three Jewels at the beginning of the treatise, and its meaning is that all of us who have taken refuge in the Three Jewels should offer prostrations and offerings to the Three Jewels and pray before doing anything, so that it can be successful. Even sinful things can be successful. Only those who go to the salt mines and gold mines can do sinful things, and doing it that way will be successful, which is a personal experience. All those who perform mantras are also like this, among them, one only recites their own mantra, and the other recites their own mantra and also makes offerings and recitations to the Three Jewels. If there are these two situations, then the former cannot exert power over the latter.

It is accomplished through practical experience. Therefore, from the very beginning of our renunciation, we began to cut off the continuation of samsara. From the time of generating the great Bodhicitta, we began to cultivate omniscience for the benefit of others. In order to perfect all of this, one should always prostrate to the Three Jewels, make offerings, and pray. Recite about a hundred rounds of heart mantras, or read about a volume of scripture, or practice a little bit of mindfulness, but do these things before that. By doing these things, even if the main task is not accomplished, the work will not be in vain. The main thing is that very thing. If one can believe in the greatness of the Three Jewels and rely on them, then there is nothing more powerful than this for both removing obstacles and fulfilling desires, but if one asks too frequently, it may become difficult. Virtuous people are the noble ones of the past. From the time they first began to pursue liberation and omniscience, they acted in the same way. Those who wish to be included among the virtuous should also act in the same way, they said. Secondly, the meaning of the words is: The object of prostration is all the Victorious Buddhas, the Bhagavat Buddhas, who reside in the ten directions and three times, and their teachings—the sacred Dharma, and the Sangha of Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas who personally practice it. The one who prostrates is Jowo Je himself, who, knowing the qualities of the Three Jewels, prostrates with faith and great respect in thought and action. Here, the Buddha, the object of prostration, is referred to as "Victorious One" because in the past, after the Bhagavat Buddha had fully attained enlightenment, he met a wandering ascetic on the road to Varanasi. The ascetic asked him, "Who are you? Where are you going?" At that time, (the Buddha replied:) "Because I am free from sin and afflictions, and have overcome pride, I am called the Victorious One." This is the name he gave himself, which is the perfect quality attained after abandoning everything. Sharawa also said: "Only the Buddha can abandon the two obscurations, including their imprints. All the noble ones who have gone beyond the world have only refuted these two obscurations. Those who have attained dhyana and formless attainments have only suppressed the afflictions of the lower realms in their own realm."
