If you let it go, there is danger. Likewise, what has passed will not come back. The meditator Dampa Bawo's oral instruction says that at first, one should meditate for short periods with many repetitions, then gradually lengthen the meditation time and reduce the number of repetitions. After that, practice the four sessions of yoga. If you can persist for a long time, you will reach a state of diligence day and night. In the past, when Geshe Potowa asked Gyalwa Drakpa Gyaltsen about the "Lamp for the Path," he also said that all thoughts of impermanence and so on should be applied to everything. If there is no samadhi on impermanence, one will be attached to this life alone. If that is the case, as stated before, there is no difference from animals, and even this life cannot be brought to a good end, let alone the next life. If there is samadhi on impermanence, then everything from karma and its results to the ultimate understanding of no birth will arise. If there is no samadhi focused on karma and its results, because one does not believe in karma and its results, in order to abandon karma and its results, even the happiness of future lives will not be achieved, let alone anything else. If there is samadhi on karma and its results, then from obtaining the basis for happiness, one will eventually realize the nature of dependent origination as unborn. If there is no samadhi on the faults of samsara, one will not be able to escape from samsara, let alone liberate others. If there is samadhi on the faults of samsara, one will also attain liberation, and all the dharmas of the Great Vehicle, such as loving-kindness and compassion, will arise. If there is no samadhi of loving-kindness and compassion, one will not become a Mahayana practitioner. If there is samadhi of loving-kindness and compassion, it is the root of the Great Vehicle. If there is samadhi of the mind of enlightenment, the benefits mentioned earlier will arise, and if not, the opposite faults will arise. If there is no samadhi on emptiness, because one does not abandon the clinging to inherent existence, one will not be able to escape from samsara, let alone attain omniscience. If there is samadhi on emptiness, then all the opposing factors that are rooted in clinging to inherent existence will be abandoned, and without obstacles, all qualities will arise, and compassion will arise for sentient beings who have not realized emptiness. Believe in these reasons, and combine all aspirations and so on as before. Fourth, explaining that supernormal powers arise from the accomplishment of calm abiding: When a yogi has accomplished calm abiding, supernormal powers will also be accomplished. As it is said, this is also above
