Furthermore, abandoning all the mind-making and grasping at entities of the lesser vehicle, transforming into emptiness and great compassion as the core, and merely practicing the means to attain omniscience for the sake of others. Sixth, not belittling oneself: I cannot achieve omniscience for the benefit of others. To achieve it, Bodhisattvas practice difficult practices, giving away heads and eyes, and even having to give up their lives to protect against each misdeed, and not shrinking even when limbs are cut into pieces, and also meditating on compassion for them, and in turn benefiting them, etc., must be practiced without interruption. If one belittles oneself thinking, "I cannot do that," as the Ornament of Sutras says: "Why sentient beings transform into humans, in each immeasurable instant, for the sake of attaining complete enlightenment, one should not embrace cowardice." In this way, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the past were not already like that from the beginning. They also became like that by gradually becoming accustomed, just like me. Therefore, I think that if I also get used to it, there is nothing I cannot do. The actions of the Bodhisattvas who are now abiding on the earth are like an arrow shot and returning to the eye, and they will not even have the thought of generating cowardice. To achieve omniscience for the benefit of others, one must abandon all the desires of this life, and not care about the happiness and suffering of this life at all. If one demands this, cowardice will arise. At such times of cowardice, one should also think about what will happen to this life if one abandons the Dharma. If one does not make effort oneself, the afflictions will not have compassion either. Giving and so on will not say, "You seem unable to achieve it, so let us help you complete it." The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will not exercise protection either. If they exercised protection, Avalokiteśvara alone would have already placed everyone in liberation by now. The reason for not being liberated is that protection has not been exercised. If one makes effort oneself, one will be liberated sooner if one makes effort sooner, and later if one makes effort later. Looking at others as well, abandoning the Dharma, one does not see any happiness in this life either. If one acts according to the Dharma, it is obvious that one will become better and better. In previous lives, how much happiness one enjoyed, but one was deceived, and how much suffering one endured.

Reflecting on past experiences, even with effort, there was nothing to gain. The suffering of practicing Dharma now is not even a tiny fraction of the suffering of the lower realms in the past, and it is accompanied by great rewards, ultimately eliminating all suffering. The happiness of abandoning the Dharma is no greater than the happiness of the past. If you abandon the Dharma now, thinking that you will have to endure endless suffering in the future, do not mistreat yourself. Now that the practice of Dharma has not reached perfection, it is not enough to mistreat yourself. If the practice of Dharma reaches perfection, you will be frustrated, and the sin of mistreating yourself is great. If you mistreat yourself, you will not even be able to achieve a good rebirth, and you will only become more and more degenerate. Seventh, regarding patience and non-anger. Patience: It is necessary to endure both suffering and harm. If you do not endure suffering, you will not be able to enter any Dharma, as Geshe Tonpa said, using wine as an example. If you do not endure harm and retaliate with evil, you will not become a holder of precepts who cuts off the root of harming others, so you must practice patience in various ways. Even if you commit a sin for a moment, you will fall into the Avici hell for eons. Therefore, just thinking about karma and its effects is also helpful for practicing patience. After thinking like this, even if I am burned to death or beheaded, I would rather do so, and in any case, I will not surrender to the enemy of afflictions. Like this, you need to have the perseverance to not be tired of the Dharma and to persevere to the end. Non-anger: As it is said in the sutras: A person who wants merit and lives in the forest should not observe the faults of others. Do not think that you are particularly excellent and that you are the best. Like this, not revealing the scars of others for the faults and violations of others possesses the six merits of non-anger. If you reveal the scars of others, it will lead to danger in the method, thereby exhausting all good roots. Do not be proud of being pure in precepts, and do not despise others who break precepts. If you despise others just because you hold precepts, this contempt itself is an act of breaking precepts. Like this, you will also fall into the ranks of breaking precepts. Therefore, rely on the great compassion of the Dharma and vow to abandon all evil deeds that make sentient beings close.
