Now, those who call themselves Kadampa Kunchar, there are very few who do not drink alcohol. All the aspirations of those who do not drink alcohol, just like not wanting to rely on long and tedious things, entrust all difficulties and ease to it. If it goes on like this, even a good rebirth lower than the Bodhisattva vows cannot be achieved. Even in this life, one will lose shame, Dharma, and reputation because of this. Therefore, one should view desires as faults, and even when one needs to enjoy food and drink, one should enjoy them with a mind like a leaky boat or a cracked wheel. Although it is said to be a monk who is not tainted by the four faults arising from the Vinaya-vastu, it seems difficult to abandon the desires of the three times. If one does not abandon them, then one is considered to have broken the precepts. Even if one has the first three, if one dwells in the Sangha and in noise, and the body and mind are not secluded, the Bodhisattva vows cannot be ultimately accomplished. Therefore, the fourth is to delight in solitude. One should train in the body being secluded from noise and the mind being secluded from conceptual thoughts. Regarding the body being secluded from noise, Jowo (Atisha) said, "Even now in India, there are many obstacles to living alone." Putowa also said, "Only do no less than four things and no more than ten things." But no one listens. Because relying on the Sangha seems right to those who are experienced, do not do the solitude of relying on the Sangha. As Putowa said, even in the midst of a large army, try to find some secluded places. If one does not dwell in solitude, one cannot even protect the Pratimoksha vows. And this depends on abandoning the desires of the three times; if one does not abandon desires, there is no opportunity. The mind being secluded from conceptual thoughts, if even the attention of the Lesser Vehicle must be abandoned, what need is there to say that the conceptual thoughts of ordinary people must be abandoned? The necessity of solitude lies in making the mind distant from the qualities of the five desires. The fifth is the purification of speech and thoughts. The purification of speech is: commonly, abandoning the four faults such as lying; uncommonly, all speech that cannot be transformed into the benefit of others and the accumulation of the wisdom of omniscience must also be purified. The purification of thoughts is: commonly, abandoning the eight evil thoughts such as conceptual thoughts about objects and relatives; uncommonly,
