What is it? In this way, a Bodhisattva generates the mind for all sentient beings to attain complete enlightenment, but jealousy, which arises from conflict in the mind towards even the slightest perfection of others, is contradictory to this. Therefore, from the moment of vowing to enter (the Bodhisattva path), one should not do this until one attains the complete fruit of enlightenment. That is to say, in the individual liberation vows of a Bodhisattva, it is said that a Bodhisattva does not have the four (faults) of hypocrisy, miserliness, jealousy, sowing discord, and the timid mind that thinks one cannot achieve omniscience. If one claims to be a Bodhisattva while clearly possessing these four (faults), it is the same as what is said to be hypocritical pretense. Therefore, these four (faults) are the main representation. All fifty-seven (things to be abandoned) mentioned in the "Ratnavali" cannot be accepted. Because for a beginner, it is impossible to ensure that all of these do not arise in the continuum. As it is said in the chapter on discipline, there is no fault in being repeatedly overwhelmed by afflictions due to their strength. However, one must not accept them as soon as they arise, but must abandon them like driving away a black snake whose venom spreads quickly when it comes into one's embrace, or like driving away an old female yak. Dromkha Gyaltsun (音译) asked Geshe Tonpa (音译) what to do when one cannot abandon them in that way, and Sharawa (音译) said that when one cannot abandon them in that way, one should not vow to enter (the Bodhisattva path). Regarding the meaning of Brahmacharya, the "Abhidharma of True Dharma" says that Brahma refers to Nirvana, and it is called Brahmacharya because one studies to attain Nirvana. Here, in the "Prajnaparamita Sutra," it is said, does a Bodhisattva need sons and wives? Some need sons and wives, and some do not, but abide in the form of a youth. As Sharawa said, among the two cases of a Bodhisattva attaining Buddhahood in the form of a youth and not in the form of a youth, the Blessed One Manjushri vowed to attain Buddhahood in the form of a youth. Therefore, one should practice Brahmacharya. That is to say, until one attains Buddhahood, one vows to remain undefiled by worldly dharmas.

It is not to attain Buddhahood in a youthful manner, but to hold the basis of the greatest possible capacity for the benefit of sentient beings. One should take vows like our predecessors, as in the prayer of Yerpa. In Rateng, one jokingly said to a friend of high and low status, asking Geshe Tonpa, "From the Nepalese chiseling stones over there to the Han Chinese women weaving silk over here, would you like to be a merchant who travels constantly and does not exceed the boundaries? Would you like to be the master of about a hundred women and also be a monastic monk?" He replied, "When you give rise to the wisdom of the path of seeing, it will be possible." Before that, it is said to be the decree not to eat. In the Ten Bhumi Sutra, it is said that even for those who have attained the bhumis, if they are on the side of renunciation, they have additional qualities. For beginners, the householder's side is a basis with harm, so there are many obstacles to learning. Because one must rely on the harmless side of renunciation, the glory of celibacy is the best. As it is said, until Buddhahood is attained, one should practice celibacy that is not defiled by the desire for the Dharma of death, and one should abandon all ten sinful non-virtuous dharmas and all internal and external desires. Or, since the previous inner desire is included in accepting celibacy, this shows the abandonment of external desires. Or, Sharawa said that sin is desire, which is the characteristic of disparaging desire itself. That same Geshe also said, "Potowa once said, one should abandon sin and desire. Above that is the vow of the discipline of vows. From then on, the two feet accumulate merit. Below that is the vow of the discipline of benefiting sentient beings." Everyone emphasized this as a footnote, and later all those who hoped to become wise added such a footnote. I wondered, will I be like that too? Geshe did not speak, so he said he did not explain and rebuked me. Although it seems that things will develop that way, the discipline of vows is the three disciplines. To that, just as the Buddhas of the past, present, and future have taught, I also like that, so I will follow them, he often said. The bodhisattva's discipline of vows
