Similarly, in this treatise, the ritual of taking initiation with one's own aspiration in the presence of the Buddhas of the ten directions will be clearly written. That is, Sharawa the Great said: Previously, the noble Manjushri, the king of the country of Amba, was called Namkhai Kye (Sky Born), or perhaps the word Amba is the Indian word for sky. For hundreds of thousands of years, he begged alms from the Tathagata Dragon Sound King and his retinue, and also offered gifts. Living in a secluded place, he performed great roots of virtue, and when he thought in his heart about dedicating it to the gods, etc., or where to dedicate it, from the sky, the great king of the gods urged him not to dedicate it to the lower ones, but to dedicate it to perfect Bodhi. And he said that in the presence of that Tathagata, he himself made this vow. Third, the actual ritual as explained in that sutra is: In the presence of the protectors, generate the perfect Bodhicitta, regard all beings as guests, and liberate them from samsara. From now until the attainment of Bodhi, do not engage in harmful thoughts, angry thoughts, and miserliness and jealousy. One should practice celibacy, abandon sins and desires. Rejoicing in the vows of discipline, one should follow the Buddha. Not wanting to attain Bodhi in one's own quick way, but through the cause of one sentient being, abide at the edge of the future. One should purify immeasurable, inconceivable fields. Starting from the name, abide in the ten directions. The deeds of my body and speech should be completely pure. The deeds of the mind should also be purified, and unwholesome deeds should not be done. It is said that this is promising and undertaking the training. That is, Sharawa said: Bodhisattvas like Samantabhadra or Akashagarbha, for sixty intermediate kalpas, offered heaps of jewels as large as Mount Meru three times a day and three times a night to the Sangha of fully enlightened Buddhas and their retinue, and the generation of Bodhicitta that appears in the Three Heaps Sutra, etc., is also the same, so even if receiving it from a place where there is no one, do not spare your ability.

As it is said, one should make extensive offerings and accumulate merit. Likewise, in front of the image of the Tathagata, first perform the ritual of inviting and abiding, prostrations, offerings, and so on. In the main practice, in the presence of the Buddhas, the protectors of the world in the ten directions, because it is the ultimate of the fruit, or having comprehended some kind of Bodhi in the mind, for the sake of fulfilling all the benefits of oneself and others, I should attain such Bodhi and generate the mind of enlightenment. Moreover, for what purpose do you generate this mind? You generate it for the purpose of hosting all sentient beings. What is the activity of hosting them, or whom do you host? It is to liberate those sentient beings from Samsara. Therefore, completely liberate all those sentient beings from Samsara and place them in perfect Bodhi. This is the vow of aspiration. Sharawa said so. Next is the vow of entering. The vows of a Bodhisattva are taken with unbearable love and compassion for all sentient beings. These two, hatred and its retinue, are the cause of abandoning sentient beings. If you accept these, there is a risk of abandoning the aspiration, and there is also a risk of incurring root downfalls. If you abandon the aspiration, because you abandon the basis, you also abandon the entering. Just as abandoning refuge also abandons individual liberation. Therefore, I and my friends have been harmed in the past, are harmed now, and will be harmed in the future, three times three, making six. To those who are not friendly to me, I have given benefits in the past, I give benefits now, and I will give benefits in the future, three times, making nine. From these nine causes arise the mind of harm, the object of all torment, and the mind of anger, which immediately causes harm and agitates the mind. The body, possessions, and all the roots of virtue of a Bodhisattva are dedicated to sentient beings, and the fruit of all accomplishments in three countless eons, the omniscient wisdom, is also dedicated to sentient beings. If you are attached to your own meager possessions and cannot give to others, and accept such miserliness, there is also a risk of incurring root downfalls. Therefore, regarding such miserliness: All sentient beings desire happiness, and after generating the mind of enlightenment in Bodhi, when sentient beings themselves find happiness, why be angry now? If you do not wish them to attain happiness, why do you wish them to attain Bodhi?
