The venerable one said, "Having a basis of non-harm is the other." Therefore, having a basis of non-harm is the renunciant who is more superior than the householder, so the five groups of renunciants are represented by the monk. As said by Putowa and Sharawa the Great, in general, the basis of the Bodhisattva vows must be any one of the seven types of vows of individual liberation that are guarded for life. As the Tathagata said, the one who possesses the glory of perfect pure conduct is the supreme basis of the Bodhisattva vows. If so, then the basis of non-harm, which is more superior than the householder, is the renunciant, so the nun, novice monk, novice nun, and probationary nun are represented by directly mentioning the monk, that is, one who possesses any one of the vows of the five groups of renunciants. Thus, the meaning is explained. Furthermore, by abiding in the four places and four principles that arise according to the Dharma, thereby abandoning the four defeat offenses, and also knowing and guarding the expanded training rules when reciting the Pratimoksha Sutra every half month, abiding in the four places, diligently exhorting so as not to make sentient beings厌烦, and also having no attachment to anything such as food, this is called an unobstructed state of learning the Bodhisattva's training. Nowadays, Nepalese monks like Hadu are attached to both household affairs and Bandi affairs. Completely holding on, some even hold weapons in their homes. The most powerful, not bows and arrows, but in every householder's home, renunciants need to hold one or two things. Anger, Sharawa said, relying on human and divine assemblies, grows into about eighteen things that torment the mind and body, this is not called anger. Having thus determined the basis, secondly, regarding the ritual of how to take it. It is divided into two ways: when a teacher is actually present, taking it from the teacher; when not present, taking it from the Buddhas of the ten directions through faith and understanding. In the first way, it is further divided into: according to which treatise the ritual is performed, and the explanation of the characteristics of the teacher. The first point is: In the ritual spoken in the chapter on ethics of the Bodhisattva-bhumi, possessing true characteristics.

It is said, "Take vows from a good lama." That is to say, in general, the ritual for taking the Bodhisattva vows is divided into two types: with a place and without a place. The one with a place is to be done according to the ritual spoken in the chapter on ethics in the treatise called "Bodhisattva-bhumi" by the teacher Arya Asanga. As for from where to take the vows, as will be explained, take the vows of the Bodhisattva's ethics from a good lama who possesses the four true characteristics. Jowo himself also wrote a ritual, which is the same as the words of the twenty verses of the Nyingma, Shara-wa said. Second, the characteristics of the place lama are shown: Skilled in the ritual of vows, One who dwells in whatever vow, Able to bestow vows, endowed with compassion, Know that he is a good lama. It is said. That is to say, at the time of bestowing the vows, he is able to tame the minds of the disciples, and because all the words and meanings of the three preparations, main practices, and conclusions come from his mind, he is skilled in the ritual; he has obtained the Bodhisattva vows and has not violated them, so he abides in those vows; he is not too old or suffering from illness, so his body is able to bestow the vows; he does not look at material things, but wants to give the vows with the thought of great compassion. If he has these four characteristics, he should be known as a good lama of the place of entering the vows. From the mouth of Shara-wa: The lama has four characteristics: first, pray; then, if he can do it, give offerings and so on; then, also widely show him the benefits of the Bodhisattva vows; also tell the basis of the heavy and light precepts; then, let him prostrate and make offerings to the Buddhas of the three times in the ten directions and the Bodhisattvas who dwell on the vast land, and let them meditate on their qualities, then, manifest the image of the Tathagata and make offerings well, then let him pray again, let him meditate on joy, ask about obstacles, then tell the precepts, pray to the Buddhas of the ten directions to know, and do not boast to those who do not believe, until all the time can tame the minds of the disciples, all rituals
