Or is this called "happiness"? Or, is it the happiness that transcends the world, the worldly happiness, meaning to enjoy happiness for a long time. The fourth is, regarding things that should not be regretted, if one does good deeds with the thought of generating regret, whether regret arises or not, if the time limit is exceeded, the bodhicitta will be lost. Wherever one does good, in whatever way regret arises, regret will arise in various ways. In particular, when one sees others making generous offerings in some way, because one cannot do it oneself, one feels sad and says, "Generosity is good, but I am poor." Or one says, "I cannot do this when I am old, nor can I do it when I am sick." Thus, regret arises. Wanting to become a monk, but the uncle (Akha) says not to give, thus regret arises regarding discipline. Regarding all protections and actions, one also says, "Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, I may get sick." Especially in terms of patience, if there is someone practicing patience, even a donkey thief will do bad things to the donkey owner. One hundred bad people, a thousand rotten people, cannot deal with one. Water flows earlier and later, but the later flow is always more. Borrowing things and not returning them will increase more and more. Not attending banquets will decrease more and more. The great Geshe Potowa, when he was in Nyenpo, said that because he saw diligence and so on as virtues, he would not generate any regret at all. Not only does he not generate regret, but if there is a diligent or practicing person, because he has not completed enough work, he will say, "This person will destroy the Dharma, destroy the monastery, destroy the sangha." Some people, like saying in front of (the master), also generate regret out of jealousy. The root of wisdom is hearing, because one has made good wishes, one will say, "Make a rule not to go to listen to the Dharma." In order to counteract these, one should place them on the path of the three types of beings, and ripen them. Those who have not temporarily become vessels of liberation should also be placed on the cause of good rebirth. Ultimately, all should also be ripened in the Great Vehicle alone. Those who temporarily receive teachings should also be embraced with thought. For those who engage in good deeds, one should help them, praise them, rejoice in them, and so on. If one does this, they will not generate regret from engaging in good deeds. At the time of generating bodhicitta.

Since one has vowed to liberate those sentient beings who have not yet been liberated, etc., this is solely the activity of a Bodhisattva. It is said in the scriptures that the act of understanding the path of the Mother (Prajnaparamita) is also to ripen and liberate sentient beings. Geshe Dromtönpa would say to all the children who offered him bunches of old, withered flowers, to make aspirations that we, father and son, may attain Buddhahood, and he would dedicate the merit for them. How can it be acceptable to be so vague now? If it becomes clear tomorrow or the day after, then one will be able to dedicate the root of virtue to Buddhahood. Thus, the cause of losing Bodhicitta is that, firstly, it does not need to manifest in body and speech. The latter four need to manifest in body and speech. Once it manifests there, if it exceeds the time limit, even if others do not notice, and one does it secretly alone, it will be lost. If within the time limit, one applies the antidote, it is okay to confess later. If it is accomplished within that time, it is very good. That is also what the great Geshe Potowa said, that previously it was okay to do it in front of a person or in front of a sacred object. Later, it is necessary to have a sacred object as the support, and not a person. In front of the support, one should also arrange simple offerings, prostrate, make offerings, and confess like a monk confessing transgressions. Then, one should also perform a condensed Bodhicitta ritual. Chennga said that the six causes of abandoning the Bodhicitta of a Shravaka also cause it to be lost. That also says that abandoning is taught in the Sutra of Great Secret Skillful Means, and that is included in abandoning sentient beings. If it has not arisen, since all sentient beings are abandoned at once, there is no time limit because there is no support. Previously, Geshe Dromtönpa would say to all those who said that these five cause Bodhicitta to degenerate, and are not abandonment, that even if it is not called abandonment, it can still be added as a cause that increases more than before. If these five things happen and exceed the time limit, all that has arisen before will prevent it from arising again later, that is their power. Then, is the Bodhisattva vow like gold and silver melting, and does it contradict the statement that it is later restored? It does not contradict, because from the beginning, by purifying sins and accumulating merit through the four powers, if the mind returns to its original state, it is different from individual liberation vows, and there is an opportunity to arise. If one takes it back immediately after losing it, it will not arise. These five are always the antidote to everything.
