It is said that one can gradually attain the pure lands of the Buddhas. Therefore, even offering a small amount of scented water, like a mustard seed, is said to generate immeasurable merit. So, offering such vast offerings will certainly generate immeasurable merit, and it is said to be even greater than that, so one should have complete faith in all of this and practice it constantly. If you practice it, it is said that the merit is greater than before, and this is also the true meaning. If we consider the offering itself, that is the supreme mundane offering, while this is the unsurpassed practice offering. The former has great merit, but it is limited, while the latter has no limit or boundary. Because we ourselves have little understanding of the Dharma, even though we can cultivate the spontaneously arising Bodhicitta without interruption, we do not consider it something to be happy about. When we see others performing Dharma ceremonies or making large offerings, we are envious and feel inferior. The difference in the Dharma is said to be like this. It is not enough to just practice that alone, nor is it to say that other meritorious deeds such as offering to the Three Jewels are unimportant. Both must be done with all effort. By doing so, one will promote the other. Therefore, striving to accumulate the two accumulations is said to be a single teaching, and Bodhicitta itself is said to arise from the accumulation of merit. This is mainly to refute those who think that purity can be obtained by worshiping gods, and also to refute those who think that if one always cultivates Bodhicitta, one will not be able to complete the accumulations. The third teaching, in order to generate the Bodhicitta that has not yet arisen, and to prevent the Bodhicitta that has already arisen from declining and to increase it, one must strive to accumulate the two accumulations, as it is said in the scripture: "Having generated the excellent Bodhicitta aspiration, one should constantly increase it with much effort." That is to say, Geshe Potowa said, "It can be accomplished by striving to accumulate the two accumulations." Sharawa Geshe said above, "The cause for it to be accomplished has actually become clear." Therefore, as mentioned before, with the aim of benefiting others, vowing to attain the great fruit of Bodhi, and generating the aspiring Bodhicitta to become a Bodhisattva, the task to be done is to make the Bodhicitta last by accumulating the two accumulations of merit and wisdom with many efforts.

It should be propagated in every way, and in order to prevent it from declining, all the following teachings should also be studied. As Sharawa himself said, "It is the method of the Bodhisattva path to attain Buddhahood, and its activity is only to accumulate the two accumulations, therefore, with much effort." The so-called much effort is to strive in the activity of the two accumulations. Wisdom and its cause are the accumulation of wisdom, and all other virtues are the accumulation of merit, as stated in the commentary on the Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning. Among them, wisdom arises from meditation, its cause is listening and thinking, or wisdom itself, its cause is meditation, as the Buddha said, "Through truly abiding, one will truly understand." Or, wisdom is the three of listening, thinking, and meditating, its cause is relying on a noble person, listening to the noble Dharma, and properly applying the mind. Or again: Giving and discipline are the accumulation of merit, wisdom is the accumulation of wisdom, the other three are the accumulation of both, and all five are the accumulation of wisdom. This is also stated in the Ornament of the Sutras. The first three are merit, the last is wisdom, and diligence and meditation are considered to be companions of both. The oral instruction for practicing all of these is that Jowo (Atisha) said, "For all white dharmas, strive in various ways. After doing so, for the merit that arises, grasp it with mindfulness and immediately dedicate it to the wisdom of omniscient knowledge. By doing so, both will become both, because omniscient knowledge is the fruit of the two accumulations." Putowa, when he later resided in Nyenpo, always strived in four things: training the mind, accumulating merit, purifying sins, and making aspirations. This is also what he said. Among them, training the mind is as Geshe Tonpa said, "Without abandoning the lower vehicle, there is no higher vehicle." Therefore, one should practice through the path of the three types of individuals. By practicing in this way, one will go from small to medium, and from medium to great, thereby generating Bodhicitta, and it will not decline but increase. Accumulating merit is: offering to the Three Jewels, serving the Sangha, distributing to the poor, and giving torma to the spirits. It is said that it arises only from giving, and it can also be done in various ways. All sins
