Among all the actions and things that please me, the most important is to please the venerable guru who is pleased by the practice of a disciple who acts according to the Dharma. As Sharawa said, one must follow the teachings of the four tantras in order to be qualified to practice the secret mantra. For this, one must please the guru. Therefore, there are sayings such as "teacher." The reason why the teacher gives empowerment is also because of the teacher. The guru said, "It is the teacher's." There are two ways to please the guru: to please him with material offerings and to please him with practice. The former is "offering treasures." Regarding offerings, Geshe Tonpa never failed to brew three pots of tea for Jowo Je, and never let him stay in the dark. When Jowo Je stayed in Nyetang, he always spat everywhere, and Geshe Tonpa would clean it carefully and wipe it with fresh urine. Jowo Je once said, "Alas! Even in India, I don't have a disciple like you." We should do as he did. Regarding giving treasures and other things, the Fifty Verses on the Guru says, "Not sparing children, wives, and concubines, if one can please the guru's mind with one's life, what need is there to mention movable wealth?" Geshe Tonpa once offered Jowo Je one hundred and eight portions of gold at one time, each portion weighing nine ounces, piled high. Putowa said, "After Geshe Tonpa, no one was better at serving the guru than Todlungpa." Was Todlungpa better than Geshe Tonpa? Someone asked him, "He offered the venerable one four hundred ounces of gold cast from four ounces of gold." Awara said, "Geshe Tonpa's offering of butter lamps to Jowo Je was more precious." Material offerings should also be offered as a part of the complete assembly of disciples. In reality, one must please the guru with practice, such as "following the instructions." Pleasing the guru with practice must also be the kind of practice that can return from forbidden places. Sumpa Dorje Bar did not display the vajra kilaya, but poured out offerings, and some say, "Whoever does the warrior of strife, give him cautious offerings," but that will not please the guru. The actions of the venerable guru must also be pleased with practice. Compared to focusing on material offerings, it is better to obtain higher rebirths through the secret mantra guru.

It is also not possible to become a Guru of practice. Geshe Tonpa said: "During the day, riding on a horse carrying books, and at night, bestowing empowerments on disciples, and in the morning, seeking gold, looking at such chaos, one will not become a true Guru." Secondly, it is shown that pleasing the Guru and receiving empowerment will become the cause of becoming an achiever of realization: "By pleasing the Guru, the complete Guru bestows empowerment, all sins are completely purified, and the self-nature becomes the cause of achieving realization." It is said that, that is, after doing as just said, the true Guru becomes very pleased mainly through the pursuit of wealth, therefore the complete Guru bestows empowerment, as for whether this Putowa is the same person or a different person, it is not known, in any case, because of that empowerment, the nature of all sins that hinder the achievement of Mahamudra is completely purified, in order to achieve that Mahamudra, one has the power to do the work of Tantra, and will become a person with the cause. That is to say, Putowa said: "If one has a true Guru and pleases him, and thereby truly obtains empowerment, then all sins will surely be purified. Now, if one puts an old pot with a broken mouth and a neck wrapped in wool on a dilapidated cabinet, and even the mantra itself is not read clearly, but only reads 'Tsarewa Tsare', then not only will it not be achieved, but it will hinder achievement." Sharawa said: "Now, it is more difficult to find a true Guru of Paramita than a true Guru of Tantra. When Geshe Tonpa was dying, he bequeathed to all his Dharma brothers: 'When the Buddha was about to pass into Nirvana, he held his son and the noble Ananda with his left and right hands, saying that these two people, one is my son, and one is a close attendant, who I will raise, and now I am going to give up my life, and entrust these two people to the Buddhas of the ten directions.' When the Guru is dying, he should entrust his disciples to others who have more or equal qualities than himself, but I said that I have not seen in Tibet a Guru to whom I can entrust you, so you two should not separate, but support each other, and take the virtuous friend Sutra as an example." That's it.
