Moreover, sentient beings are born in the Reviving Hell. It is said that even if one violates a minor transgression after taking vows, one must experience the suffering of that one day. It is said that one day there is equivalent to nine million human years. Likewise, if one has faith, one will not be attached to all the pleasures of a kingdom. One has been deceived by experiencing it many times before. Even if one obtains it now, it is the nature of things to be deceived. Not being overcome by hatred is: Even if I am burned and killed, or my head falls, I will not submit to the enemy of afflictions in any way. In the manner of what was said, even if one is killed by having one's abdomen cut open or one's throat slit, one should not open the door to hatred and not allow even small sins to enter. This is human suffering. If one transgresses the Dharma because of it, the killing by the hell guards and so on will never cease. Not being overcome by fear is: Putowa said, "May all sentient beings of Jambudvipa become wheel-turning kings ruling over the three continents." In the Sutra of Utterly Peaceful Determination of Miraculous Transformations, it says: "May all sentient beings, as numerous as the dust particles of all world realms, become wheel-turning kings ruling over Jambudvipa. And all those great lords gather together and threaten you, saying, 'If you do not commit this small sin, we will cut off five ounces of flesh and tear off your nails every day to kill you,' even then one would not violate even a small sin." If one has faith in karma, even if human life is prolonged, even if they cut off flesh and tear off nails, one will not die, but must experience suffering, but there is not even the preparation for one day of the Reviving Hell. If one commits sins out of fear, then the cutting with weapons by the sentient hells and the beating and pounding by the hell guards will never cease. We will not be intimidated that much, but for the sake of a small profit, no more than a lump of tsampa or a cup of tea, we transgress the Dharma out of desire and commit all major and minor sins. Just because of the goodness or badness of a glance or the highness or lowness of a word, we say, "You despise me," and then transgress the Dharma out of hatred, commit sins, and quarrel. Just because of the fear of being scolded by a lama or a high official, we tell many lies.

Not valuing sins is due to ignorance. Not deviating from the Dharma is because, if one believes in karma and its results, one will not merely think that non-virtue leads to suffering, but will understand that various kinds of suffering arise from the various categories of non-virtue, and thus will not disregard even minor sins. It's like hearing someone say that there is a bottomless pit of fire in this direction, one would open one's eyes wide, determine the location, and avoid falling into it, rather than saying one doesn't know where it is and then falling in. Similarly, if one believes in karma and its results, one will not disregard sins out of ignorance. Even a small, ordinary cliff requires caution. What need is there to mention a long cliff that leads to a fall of thousands of fathoms? Like this, previously one might fall into an ordinary cliff, but if one values sins, one will fall into cliffs like the hells of sentient beings. Most of us deviate from the Dharma because we don't have time to discern what is reasonable and unreasonable, and because we are confused about the definitions of good and evil. Therefore, if one believes in karma and its results but does not value sins, even if one attains a good rebirth, its essence is still suffering, and even if there is a little happiness, it is deceptive. If one does not attain liberation, one will still fall into the lower realms, so even if one attains the position of a god at the peak of existence, it is no different from being in a copper pot in hell. Therefore, one should contemplate that the nature of all samsara is suffering, and know that the cause of suffering is karma and afflictions, which exist in their respective bases. One should generate the thought that one does not desire the three realms even in a dream, like escaping from the prison of a man-eating rakshasa, or like a bird in a scorched field or a frozen lake, generating the thought that samsara is not a place to settle. In action, one should strive diligently to completely end samsara, like extinguishing a fire that suddenly breaks out on one's head or clothes. When one reaches this point, it is time to generate the vows of renunciation, therefore one should renounce. The fear of samsara will increase even more. Because one knows that the root of samsara is only desire, one should regard all internal and external desires as a black snake that quickly spreads poison, and even if it comes into one's lap, one should generate the thought that one is afraid of merely driving it away.
