Through reasoning, does it arise from an established self-nature or from an unestablished one? If it arises from an established self-nature, then arising becomes meaningless and unnecessary. If it arises from an unestablished self-nature, then just as the self-nature of what is produced is unestablished, the producer is also non-existent because it is unestablished. Since non-existence is devoid of all capabilities, it cannot serve as a cause, nor can it serve as an effect. Therefore, the entities of aggregates, etc., do not arise from themselves from the perspective of cause. If it is said that they arise from others, then the other itself cannot be established. If the effect is established by its own nature, then the fault of not needing to be produced and being unnecessary arises as before. If the self-nature is not established, then how can it become other without dependence? As it is said: The other depends on the other to become other. How can the non-other become other? Because these two are mutually dependent. Moreover, if the other arises from the other, then because there is no difference, everything would arise from everything. As Master Chandrakirti said, even thick darkness would arise from flames. Furthermore, if the other arises from the other, does the other arise from permanence or impermanence? If it is said that it arises from permanence, that is not correct. Because permanence as a cause has unobstructed capability, all effects would occur simultaneously. But in reality, effects are observed sequentially. If one thinks, how can permanence as a cause produce effects sequentially? It is also unreasonable for permanence to produce effects sequentially. If so, then just as there is sequence in the effect, there must also be sequence in the cause, which would undermine the nature of permanence. If it is said that it arises from impermanence, then does it arise from the past, future, or present? If it is thought to arise from the past, then the past is ceased, destroyed, and separated, so it is non-existent. Non-existence is devoid of all capabilities, so it cannot serve as a cause. Nor is it from the future, because the future has not established or obtained its own nature, so it is also non-existent. Therefore, it also cannot serve as a cause. If it is thought to arise from the present, then because of simultaneity, there is no dependence between them, so simultaneity cannot serve as cause and effect. Therefore, it does not arise from others. If we consider the perspective of the effect, which is the collection of the six consciousnesses, arising from the four conditions, then from the causal condition, which is the preceding consciousness, it arises from itself.

And it is arising. From the perspective of arising from the objective condition, such as form, and the other three remaining conditions, it arises from other. Just as when a sprout arises from seeds, fields, water, fertilizer, and human effort, from the perspective of arising from the seed, it arises from self; from the perspective of arising from other conditions, it arises from other. Even if we consider the birth of sentient beings, from the perspective of arising from the seed of consciousness, it arises from self; from the perspective of arising from the union of parents, it is from other. Similarly, it is the same for all things. If it is said to arise from both, since cause and effect are different in time, the conditions of the cause, etc., cannot be established as self, so arising from both cannot be established. Self and other are contradictory in nature, so it is not reasonable to say it is both. If it is asserted to arise from self or other, then the faults mentioned above will also apply to both. Therefore, the entities of aggregates, etc., do not arise from both self and other. Furthermore, those who assert causelessness, by what cause are the stems, pistils, petals, etc., of lotuses produced? Similarly, by what cause are the patterns of peacock feathers, etc., produced? Therefore, they think that all these things arise from causelessness. But precisely because of that, it is established that they have causes. If they arose without cause, there would be no distinction, so cows and wool, etc., should also have the characteristics of lotuses, and crows should also have the characteristics of peacocks. But this is not the case. Furthermore, since causelessness does not depend on others, it would be either constant or non-existent, as it says, "Because causelessness does not depend on others, it is either always existent or non-existent." But this is also not the case, because things appear in some places at some times. Therefore, in conventional truth, it is established that they depend on causes. So it does not arise from causelessness either. Therefore, the entities of aggregates, etc., do not arise in ultimate truth. In conventional truth, the appearance of the effect arising from cause and conditions is merely relative, like short relative to long, light relative to a lamp, or this shore relative to the other shore. So it is merely conventional truth, not substantially established. It is not reasonable for nature to arise from causes and conditions.
