He said he didn't know. Secondly, regarding the method of learning the teachings of the cause-mind, there are four points: showing that effort in the cause comes from the greatness of the fruit; identifying the cause itself; explaining the method of effort; and showing that supernormal cognition arises from the accomplishment of tranquility. The first point is: The merit of the days and nights of those who possess supernormal cognition, whatever that accumulation of merit is, those who are separated from supernormal cognition will not have it even in a hundred lifetimes. Those who desire to quickly perfect the accumulation of enlightenment, must strive to accomplish supernormal cognition, it will not be accomplished by laziness. Thus it is said. That is to say, just as it was said before, King Dharma King Ashoka, with his supernormal cognition, gathered many male and female yakshas, and built ten million stupas in Jambudvipa in one night. Similarly, a person with supernormal cognition, in each day and each night, the accumulation of perfect merit, compared to those without supernormal cognition, even after a hundred lifetimes, it is impossible to perfect. Therefore, those who wish to quickly perfect the accumulation of enlightenment must cultivate vast supernormal cognition. Moreover, if one strives for the cause of supernormal cognition, supernormal cognition will be accomplished, but if one is separated from the effort of the cause, laziness will never accomplish supernormal cognition. This is the instruction of Spilbu: For this, one needs to practice, now is the time to eat one's own flesh. Geshe Stonpa said that he always thought of practicing all the Dharma assemblies in any way possible. Now it seems that people of medium or higher faculties will have the idea of explaining with the conceptual thoughts of this life. For people of lower faculties, there is never any reason. Second, identifying the cause itself: Without accomplishing tranquility, supernormal cognition will not be accomplished. Therefore, in order to accomplish tranquility, one should make repeated efforts. Thus it is said. That is to say, striving for the cause, what is that cause? Without obtaining the actual thing, there is no supernormal cognition. In this way, without accomplishing the actual thing of tranquility meditation, which is the cause, the vast supernormal cognition, which is the fruit, will not be accomplished. Therefore, the cause of supernormal cognition is the accomplishment of the actual thing of tranquility meditation.

In order to obtain the vast fruit of clairvoyance, in order to cultivate the quiescence that is the basis of the actual practice of meditative concentration, until that quiescence is obtained, one should constantly and diligently cultivate it, just as one needs to rub wood to obtain fire. Thus, one should make repeated efforts. That is to say, it is necessary to cultivate with reverence, for a long time, and without interruption. Sharawa said, "To cultivate quiescence, one also needs an uninterrupted object of focus. It won't work to do it like an old horse chewing grass." When Putowa went to the monastery, he also told the story of the yogi who pretended. Now, being distracted by various evil deeds, merely thinking of the object of focus occasionally is not enough. We only slightly do not forget mindfulness, and think that the object of focus is stable during meditation, but as soon as we stand up, we ask, "Did the calf drink milk? Was the field plowed? Was the horse given grass?" This is also not enough. Without being interrupted by any worldly evil deeds, one must remain in a state of continuous meditation even during rest. Furthermore, merely the clairvoyance of remembering past lives can also be accomplished through generosity, as it appears in the Jataka of the Warm Gruel mentioned earlier: "Through the generosity of Dharma, one remembers past lives; the youth should know this." And in the Sutra Requested by Prince Singge, it is said that offering lamps obtains the divine eye, and offering musical instruments and cymbals obtains the divine ear. It can also be accomplished through moral discipline. It is said that all the gods, as soon as they are born, can directly see the three places of where they came from, by what karma they came, and where they were born; this is the fruit of moral discipline. Reciting the Bhadracarya-pranidhana also has stories of remembering past lives. When a person from U-Tsang went to Bengal in the east, he saw a thirteen-year-old child who could speak the U-Tsang language. When he talked to him, he said that he lived in Drimey in U-Tsang. When asked if he had died, he said he had died. When asked where a monk named So-and-so was, he said he had died, and the child cried. When asked who he was to you, he said he was my previous life's Khenpo. I have parents here, and for their sake, I will return to U-Tsang and become a monk. When asked where are you from, he said stone.
