He taught the instructions through an intermediate language. With the exhaustion of outflows and direct knowledge, he would advise on the causes of the three liberations as appropriate. Although Atiśa's guru, Avadhūtipa, would sometimes offer large maṇḍalas and flowers and pray, the master knew that the time was not ripe, and remained as if praying to a boulder. Knowing the time to be beneficial, he crossed great rivers. When agitated and anxious, even small matters should not be neglected. Thinking that this paṇḍita and this yogi were only such great scholars, and that their samādhi was only so much, they neglected these sins. Now, with vast direct knowledge, he knew and said: "Beings are now in this hell, pretas are now there." Similarly, while walking on a bridge, turning his face back to speak, and so on, even at times when there seemed to be no opportunity at all, he gave many instructions with topics and reasons. As previously stated, when Atiśa prayed to Ḍombipa, he blessed him without meeting him. Later, when a mantra practitioner prayed to him, he said, "I have no karmic connection with you. I have a disciple, a monk of such and such a kind, whom I blessed, and that night he had such and such a dream, and attained such and such samādhi and qualities. You have a karmic connection with him, pray to him." There, the mantra practitioner offered Atiśa some maṇḍalas, stayed for a few days, and soon the maṇḍala of Heruka manifested, saying that he had seen the Dharma. There were also the stories of the novice monk who served the khenpo and studied the Dharma, and of arriving directly in front of the Yama's executioner while looking at the temple, who said, "Your practice ends here," and the stories of Sthavira Suvarṇadvīpa and Khu 'Dol. In this way, by giving instructions at the time when wisdom increases in the minds of others, to the extent that the wisdom of others increases, to that extent one's own accumulation of wisdom is perfected. These explained the two greatnesses of direct knowledge, the fruit held by the scriptures. Third, the greatness of removing obstacles and hindrances for oneself and others, which arises from the instructions, is also that of Sharawa himself.

He said: To eliminate one's own obstacles and hindrances, clairvoyance is also necessary, just like the story of Master Padmasambhava. Two attendants went to Mount Virtue to see Jomo (Tara). On the mountainside, they saw two old women spinning thread. When they reached the top of the mountain, they saw nothing. To see the tantra of the arising of Tara, it was shown that they were the same two as before. Having gone there and requested instructions, the attendant obtained accomplishment because of great faith. Master Padmasambhava, because of great wisdom, doubted the instructions and did not obtain accomplishment. There, Jomo said: Now you will not obtain accomplishment in this life, so become a patron of King Indrabodhi, and make the yogini Mehārā of low caste your yogini, and then practice. Having done so, he did not obtain accomplishment in his practice. He looked with clairvoyance at what caused the obstacle. Master was also of royal lineage, but by making a yogini of low caste his yogini, Master's lineage declined and became low caste. Because he was made the master, the king also became of low caste. There, the whole kingdom was seized by the sorrow of falling into low caste, and knowing that this was the obstacle, he knowingly told the king to ask the worldly people for a way to restore the lineage and then come back. Although it is said to ask the worldly people, it actually means asking the Brahmins who recite the Vedas to protect the country. When the king asked, they said that if the master and the yogini were burned to ashes, the lineage could be restored. When he could not say it, the master asked: What is the benefit of entrusting it to the worldly people? He replied: Do as they say. He said: What is the benefit of entrusting it to the worldly people? He replied: By all means, do it that way. He accumulated a lot of sandalwood and did accordingly. He said to leave the fire unextinguished for seven days. After seven days, he extinguished the fire with a lot of milk, and when he looked, from inside a large lotus casket, the master and the yogini had become deities, male and female, and ascended into the sky. Eliminating the obstacles and hindrances of others is also the work of those with clairvoyance, just as Āryadeva had Ācārya Aśvaghoṣa compose the Essence of the Eight Limbs to purify his obscurations. What connection do we have with those two?
