It is said that even if one has taken the full ordination today, one should still learn what needs to be learned. Sharawa said that even a tiny fault can obstruct the attainment of omniscience for the benefit of others, so it should be abandoned. Similarly, regarding the discipline of accumulating virtuous dharmas, the measure of accumulating virtuous dharmas well, according to Putowa, is when the ten close abidings are complete. The five close abidings of the five perfections, and the five of wisdom, among these ten, the five of wisdom also seem to be aimed at the temporary appearance of cause and effect. If that entire treatise is placed under the authority of complete freedom, it will ultimately become the close abiding of ultimate wisdom. Furthermore, Sharawa said: The close abiding of generosity is not to accept even the slightest attachment to the body and possessions. If one accepts attachment to the body, then possessions are needed as a condition for it, so one will also be attached to possessions and unable to give them away. Therefore, like this: This body and life that will be abandoned, Like dew on water and grass, By becoming accustomed to detachment for a long time, When will it become great bliss? In this way, even if one cares for the body and nourishes it with possessions, it will never help to avoid sickness and death. One can never abandon it. Because of laziness, it is like water, and because of impermanence, it is like dew on grass. The more this body is nourished with possessions, the more the filth increases, diseases reappear, and aging intensifies. If one becomes sick, one needs even more treatment and medicine. If one does not nourish it well, it will have the opposite effect. If one does not abandon attachment to the body and possessions, happiness in future lives will not come. Thinking about the faults of stinginess, which lead to rebirth as a hungry ghost, one should not accept attachment to it. Thus, because one is not attached to the body, one will not be attached to possessions, and giving will arise, so it is a close abiding, the meaning of a cause. The close abiding of discipline is not to accept the arising of afflictions and near afflictions. For the initial actions, it is impossible for them not to arise at all, but as soon as they arise, one should not accept them, but reject them like driving away a snake that has crawled onto one's lap. Recognizing the faults, one should despise them and practice the antidote. If one accepts them, they will provoke all violations of discipline, so one cannot protect it. If one does not accept them, then because of the reversed motivation, one will prevent falling, thereby protecting it.

Therefore, it is called the proximate cause. As Phuchungpa said, even when afflictions are pressing down on us like an outer fence, we must still make some effort from below. Now, we do not regard afflictions as enemies, but instead take refuge in Jowo himself. If we regard the enemy as the enemy, there will be a time when "Tasma" comes. If we repeatedly regard afflictions as faults and rely on antidotes, then the occurrence of afflictions in the continuum will become less and less, the strength will become weaker and weaker, and the duration will become shorter and shorter. Eventually, they will not even arise at all. The proximate cause of patience is: do not accept the arising of anger and resentment, etc. For the initial practitioner, it is impossible for these not to arise at all for beings in the desire realm. For those that arise, do not accept them, but abandon them. If you accept them, then, For a thousand eons accumulated, Offerings to the Sugatas and so forth, Whatever virtuous deeds there are, All are destroyed by a single anger. In this way, all roots of virtue will be burned. If you abandon sentient beings, know that you will also abandon bodhicitta, so do not accept it. The proximate cause of diligence is: do not accept the arising of inferior laziness and indolence. If you accept them, then you will not even attain a good rebirth, let alone omniscience. If you cannot attain omniscience, you cannot accomplish the benefit of others, therefore, in order to deceive the sentient beings you have promised to help, thinking that you have spoken a great lie and will fall into the lower realms, Bearing the heavy burden of sentient beings on your head, The excellent sentient beings should not walk slowly. Oneself and others are tightly bound by various bonds, Therefore, one should exert oneself a hundredfold. Measure these and strive as if there were a difference between one sentient being and all sentient beings. As it is said in the Compendium of Trainings, one should practice the four: giving, guarding, purifying, and increasing, together with bodhicitta, without interruption, and put on armor. The proximate cause of meditation is: do not accept the arising of the five obscurations and tasting their flavors. Desire, hatred, sleepiness, agitation and regret, and doubt, etc., of which sleepiness and drowsiness make the mind dull, so they are combined into one. Agitation and regret make the mind distracted, so they are combined into one. If you accept these five obscurations, desire and
