In the manner of... Due to attachment to fame, gain, and respect, praising oneself and disparaging others, to those who are suffering and helpless, being miserly and not giving wealth or Dharma, not listening even when others confess, angrily attacking others, abandoning the Great Vehicle, and proclaiming similar false Dharmas. These are all. That is to say, because the motivation is in accordance with afflictions, it is divided into four types. Due to the differences in actions, it is divided into eight types. It is known that the Pandit Bodhisattva said that the vows were abandoned simply because he did not accept patience and requests. Putowa said that in Nyetang, when Khuchenpo and Geshe Tonpa were debating, he gave instructions including that story, and then stopped it. Jangpa Rinpoche said that the four and eight mentioned in the Vinaya Sutra, Chapter on Ethics. That is to say, in a commentary on the Chapter on Ethics, it is said that merely praising oneself and disparaging others due to attachment to fame, gain, and respect is already a downfall. If one enjoys the wealth of the Sangha, how could one not fall? It is said that these are all applied one by one. Jowo Rinpoche said, if the aspiration Bodhicitta is lost and then retaken, it can be taken six times, the first and the seventh time, and after that it cannot be taken again. If it is not lost, no matter how much is accomplished, it is still the practice of Bodhicitta. If the entering Bodhicitta is lost and then retaken, it can be taken twice, the first and the third time, and after that it cannot be taken again. These are all recorded in the scriptures. If it cannot be determined whether it has been lost or has not yet arisen, it cannot be taken again. There is no one who changes his words more than Jowo Rinpoche, and he said that not giving these is because these are obstacles to the teachings. The practitioner Wangchuk Wo of Rateng Monastery requested Bodhicitta vows from Geshe Gonpawa, and afterwards lost the aspiration Bodhicitta. When Putowa was in Gona, he requested instructions from him. At that time, Putowa and Jangpa Rinpoche did not allow it, saying that you should go to the statue of the Thus-Gone One, or to the stupa of Gonpawa's relics, and take the vows wherever you like. It is said that the person named Se'utongba said that he would take the vows in front of the stupa of his own family's relics, and then he received the instructions there. If the antidote arises in the session, the vows will not be abandoned. It is said that the time to request (instructions) from Geshe Tonpa is very long, and if one can keep the precepts of aspiration Bodhicitta, there will be no root downfall, (this time) is very long. Aspiration Bodhicitta is more...

It seems like he wanted to prevent something, but Pa (name) didn't speak. Phuchung (name) asked Yerpa (place name), saying, "I have asked Jowo (name), let's speak together." In the sayings of the Geshe (degree), the Lamrim (Stages of the Path) explains the previous meaning in detail, which contradicts the precepts. Being attached to gain and respect, there are eight ways through praising oneself and slandering others, and four ways through intention. Among them, there are two caused by desire: hoping to gain profit, and losing it through praising oneself and slandering others. This requires three conditions: practicing continuously, rejoicing and regarding it as a virtue, and if even the slightest shame and fear do not arise, then it is driven by great entanglement. If it exceeds the time limit, it will be lost, so one must take the vows again. Apart from that, a medium downfall is confessed in front of three people, and the remainder in front of one person. Like a non-afflicted self-mind. Regarding actions: if shame and embarrassment arise when persuaded by others, it is medium; if it arises by oneself, it is small; if there is nothing, it is great, as the scholar Jangchub Zangpo (name) said. Like a compassionate king of medicine, there is no fault in praising oneself, but now there is no attendant. Like the Buddha saying that Devadatta is bad, it is very difficult without such attendance. Therefore, Kashyapa asked: How can I fully measure myself without slandering the wisdom of others? Measure oneself like a mountain or not like a mountain, without slander and without excessive pride. Therefore, he said that it is very important to recognize one's own characteristics, and to constantly measure whether one is respectful or disrespectful to one's own faith, cause and effect, and studies. He said that if one knows one's own limits, jealousy and other emotions will not arise. The second is relying on attachment: For those who are suffering and helpless, being stingy and not giving Dharma and wealth. Therefore, even if one has the ability, if one is stingy and does not give Dharma or wealth to such objects, or conceals and does not teach, it is also a downfall. This refers to those who seek the Dharma, but are not given it due to stinginess. One should not teach the Dharma to those who are disrespectful. Not giving wealth due to stinginess, generally speaking, requires not rejecting beggars. Like a violent door of purification, forcibly taking what is harmless is of no benefit.
