To the Sangha of Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas who manifest their bodies, the one who prostrates, Jowo Je (Atisha himself), knowing the qualities of the Three Jewels, with thoughts and actions endowed with faith, prostrates with great reverence. Here, the object of prostration, the Buddha Jewel, is referred to as "Victorious One" because in the past, after the Buddha Bhagavan attained complete and perfect enlightenment, on the way to Varanasi, he met the wandering ascetic Nirgrantha. When Nirgrantha asked, "Who are you, where are you going?" (the Buddha said), "To be free from sins and afflictions, I have overcome pride, therefore, O Nirgrantha, I am the Victorious One." Thus, naming himself, is the characteristic of complete abandonment and realization. Regarding this, Sharawa said, "Only the Buddha can abandon those two together with their imprints. Even the noble ones who have gone far from karma only refute those two. Those who have attained dhyana and formless absorptions suppress the heads of afflictions from the lower grounds, but they cannot even suppress the heads of their own grounds. Even Shravakas and Pratyekabuddha Arhats have ignorance of the abiding ground, and the seeds of sins remain in an unexamined state." It is also said that even the Bodhisattvas of the ten grounds have subtle seeds of those. If complete abandonment and realization are present, just as rays of light naturally arise when the sun rises, or rays of light naturally arise when the sun is free from clouds, without obstruction, the greatness of wisdom and qualities also naturally arises, therefore the greatness of qualities is also shown from that power. As it is said, through the way of names, the abandonment and realization, and the qualities of wisdom of the Buddha Jewel, the object of prostration, are spoken of. Because it is the Dharma spoken by the Buddha, therefore his Dharma is: Dharma (Tibetan: དྷརྨ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: धर्म, Sanskrit Romanization: dharma, Chinese literal meaning: 法) means to hold, regarding this, Sharawa said: The Dharma that shows the cause and effect of karma, holds one from liberation from the lower realms. The Dharma of the three trainings, which is a part of the suchness of the Four Noble Truths, holds one from liberation from all of samsara. The Bodhisattva's Dharma of training, propelled by the Bodhicitta that is universally embraced by loving-kindness and compassion of the Great Vehicle, even holds one from liberation from the Lesser Vehicle. Ultimately attaining the Buddhadharma, it also holds one from liberation from the path of learning, that is, the Tripitaka that proclaims these.

As stated in the Sutra Pitaka, the three baskets of scriptures are composed of twelve parts, which are the teachings; and all the dharmas of practice, realization, and fruition possessed in the minds of the noble ones, as such, the qualities of the function of the Dharma Jewel are proclaimed. Sangha, meaning the Sangha community. As it is said: The Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, even a hundred million demons, cannot separate them, therefore it is called the Sangha. As it is said, the great Kadam master Sharawa does not deviate from the teacher and the view, possessing the qualities as explained by the meaning of the word Sangha. First, with the request and the four karmas, from four or more fully ordained monks, up to four or more who have generated the great Bodhicitta, all the Sanghas of Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas, how did Jowo respectfully prostrate to these three objects? With great respect in thought and action. To this, Sharawa said: Jowo's devotion and respect, we cannot do it either, we must treat it like our own heart, do not treat the Dharma lightly, and generate respect with all the power of devotion. Jowo, during all times of Dharma practice, the dust under his feet made a subtle sound, and even those of us with good health could only barely keep up. The great Geshe Putowa said that he (Atisha) took refuge many times in Taglung Tang, and this is also the basis of the common path. What does he do after prostrating like this? Secondly, the reason for the emergence of the treatise is discussed, which is the cause of initiation. Urged by the virtuous disciple Jangchub Ö, may the Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment be fully illuminated. As it is said. That is to say, the reason why Jowo wrote this treatise is: because the teacher's practice pleases him, and it is a place of trust for everyone, so the virtuous disciple, named Jangchub Ö, urged and prayed, therefore, in order to make the place of acceptance and rejection of the path to attaining the perfect fruit of enlightenment, like lighting a lamp to illuminate the ease and breadth of the path of entry and exit, this treatise will clearly explain all the Buddha's words. Thus he agreed to write the treatise. Regarding the reason why the teacher's practice pleases him, Sharawa himself, when addressing Atisha with the honorific title "Lhatsunpa,"
