If one meditates in this way, it is a flawless flower, extremely fragrant, and very beautiful, and soon one will become the supreme king. Offering in this way generates merit that is far superior to the previous offering. For the later offering, the limit and boundary of merit are immeasurable. As Sharawa said: Offering such a special object to the special protector of the world is said to be even greater in merit than that. For the Buddha, offering in this way, the small amount of merit that arises cannot be overwhelmed. Actually prostrating to the stupa of the Buddha's hair and nails, and offering a mandala to the Buddha, even beneath these, containing as many golden wheels as the earth, until the number of minute particles, one obtains a thousand times more chakravartin kings. Ultimately, from the Buddha, all things that cannot be grasped by wisdom are truly revered, and one obtains the result of reaching the pure Buddha-fields in sequence. Therefore, even offering something like a small amount of perfume generates immeasurable merit. Therefore, offering such a vast thing generates immeasurable merit. Therefore, one should believe in all these greater merits than that and practice them constantly. If one practices it, it is said to be greater in merit than before, and this is also the true meaning. As for the offering itself, that is the most supreme of material offerings. This is the most unsurpassed of practice offerings. For the former, although the merit is great, it has a measure. For the latter, there is no measure or boundary. We ourselves, because of our lack of understanding of the Dharma, although we can practice bodhicitta without interruption, we do not rejoice in it. When we see others performing rituals or making large offerings, we become envious and feel inferior. The Dharma says this much. It is enough to practice only that, and one should not despise other meritorious activities such as offering to the Three Jewels. For both, one must do one's best. If one does so, one will increase the other. Therefore, striving to accumulate the two accumulations is said to be a single practice, bodhi

The nature of mind also arises from accumulating merit. This (statement) is said to prevent the belief that one can be purified (of defilements) by worshiping gods. It is also said to prevent (someone) from thinking that if one always cultivates bodhicitta, one cannot complete the accumulation of merit. The third instruction is that in order to generate (bodhi)citta that has not arisen, and to prevent the arisen one from declining and to increase it, one should strive in the activity of the two accumulations. As (the scripture) says: "After generating the mind of aspiration for bodhi, one should constantly increase it with much effort." This is also what Putowa said. He said, "It can be accomplished by striving in the two accumulations." Sharawa Gung said to this, "There is no cause that can be accomplished, and it has actually become clear." As mentioned before, with the ritual as shown before, for the benefit of others, generating the aspiration with the vow to take great bodhi as the result, after becoming a bodhisattva, from that time on, what needs to be done is to use the many diligences of accumulating the two accumulations of merit and wisdom to increase the bodhicitta at all times, and in order to prevent it from declining, one must also practice all the instructions below. That is, Sharawa himself said: "It is the Dharma of attaining Buddhahood in the way of a Bodhisattva, and its activity is only accumulating the two accumulations, so 'with much effort' means striving in the activity of the two accumulations." Wisdom with cause is the accumulation of wisdom. The commentary on the Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning says that all other virtuous deeds are the accumulation of merit. Among them, (wisdom) arising from cultivating wisdom, its cause is to be done in listening and thinking, or wisdom itself, its cause is meditation, as the Buddha said, "Through samadhi, one can truly know as it is." Or, wisdom is the three of hearing, thinking, and meditation. Its cause is to rely on a superior person, to listen to the superior Dharma, and to give proper attention. Or, (the scripture) says: "Giving and discipline are the accumulations of merit, wisdom is the (accumulation) of wisdom, the other three are both, all five are the accumulation of wisdom." This is also what is said in the Ornament of Clear Realization. The first three are merit, and the last one is wisdom. It is also said that diligence and meditation are the companions of both. And the key to practicing all of this is that Jowo (Atisha) said: "For all white dharmas, one should strive in various ways."
