Attachment, hatred, ignorance, pride, view, and doubt are the six root afflictions. If these are condensed, then in addition to the three poisons, pride and jealousy are added, becoming the five poisons. If these are further condensed, they are included in the three poisons of attachment, hatred, and ignorance, all of which must be abandoned by the Buddha. Abandoning the origin of karma and afflictions is also done through the three trainings of the path: the training in higher discipline undermines them, the training in higher mind suppresses them, and the training in higher wisdom completely destroys the latent tendencies from their roots. The root of these three is discipline. As previously explained, because all conditioned existence is known to be suffering, the mind does not desire the three realms, even in dreams. When this happens, it is time to generate the vows of ordination and full ordination. Therefore, one should take these vows in accordance with one's own intelligence. Putowa said: When such a thought arises and one ordains, it is called ordaining with the mind of renunciation. When one is driven by that very thought to protect the precepts, it is called the precepts of definite renunciation. The key to protecting them is also found in the Nirvana Sutra: When a person is riding on a raft to cross the ocean, if a demon appears from the sky and says to make a hole in the raft, even if it is half, a limb, the size of a palm, or the size of the eye of a needle, do not give it to him. Similarly, in order to cross from the ocean of samsara, one should not give the demon of affliction even a failure, a remainder, a transgression, an individual confession, or a minor offense on the raft of discipline. If minor offenses are allowed, one will drown in the ocean of samsara and will not reach the shore of nirvana. Therefore, having turned away from samsara and relying on the thought of nirvana, ordaining and guiding others to learn the training is all the work of the Khenpo. The word "Upadhyaya" comes from "doing, doer, what is done," so it causes one to turn away from samsara, gives a firm thought of nirvana, and gives the training of higher discipline, just as a person who makes pottery from clay is called a potter, each

The one who makes a person become an Arhat from an ordinary person is called a Khenpo. Nowadays, Khenpos and Acharyas do not train and guide the mind in the same way, asking about obstacles and ordaining people. Only the most extreme kind, who say they will be happy in this life and become gods in the next, are ordained. When will they forget the gods of the next life, forget the happiness of this life, and be exhausted in suffering? Those below that are oppressed by close relatives, officials, creditors, and enemies; their lives are not settled, they are haunted by ghosts, abused by their fathers, abused by their wives, and there is nothing more miserable than this. When worldly relatives fight, they ask about their background, property, and who they have to rely on, and who their father is. Similarly, monks and Khenpos and Acharyas also ask about their family, poverty, and character. Nowadays, if someone is poor, they don't even look at their family, and they ordain all those with obstacles. Among these three things, only their family and a bad foundation are important. Geshe Tonpa also said that it is better to focus on the foundation of a person than on other things. Those with obstacles who have no foundation, after ordaining, will add every sin to the Sangha. If they are too poor, they will come back. If they have good character, they will also come back. Now our own situation is like this, so among those who have been ordained, before they commit root downfalls, etc., if they meet someone who can train their mind like an old layperson, Jowo Rinpoche said, "It is enough to restore the ritual, there is no need to redo the ritual." The vows of aspiration and entry, if pure thoughts did not arise at that time, it is not enough to merely train the mind later, the ritual itself needs to be done from the beginning, Jowo Rinpoche said. Compared to the Pratimoksha vows, this is more important, so redo it, and don't do it carelessly. As Jowo Rinpoche said, it is said in the biography of the Holy Ananda, initially the Blessed One did not turn back, because he was the last existence, so he made him fully ordained with "Come, Bhikshu." Afterwards, he also established the vows, and within seven days of the family of Pundarika, he obtained the wheel-turning king of power, and he did not think of anything other than governing the country. The Blessed One pulled him back and forth in various ways, showed him the Thirty-Three Heavens, and made him attached to his consorts and the throne.
