From Āryadeva's Madhyamaka treatises: "One apprehends a snake in a rope; seeing the rope, it is meaningless. If one sees its parts, then knowing it as a snake is an illusion." It is said that he applied this reasoning to any object, and through the reasoning of separation of one and many, even those who did not know the alphabet could understand emptiness well. In tents, he invited virtuous craftsmen. At the time of offering, he asked, "Is not what you call a tent made up of many hopes? If these hopes are separated one by one, can a tent still be built?" They thought for a moment, understood, and admitted it. He then asked, "Is not hope made up of many threads? If these threads are separated one by one, can hope still be achieved?" Then he asked, "Is not a thread made up of strands of hair? If these hairs are separated one by one, can a thread still be formed?" He even divided the hairs into tips, roots, and shafts to ask questions. After thinking for a while, they understood and admitted it. So he applied this reasoning and said, "One apprehends a tent in hope; seeing hope, it is meaningless. If one sees its parts, then knowing it as a tent is an illusion." In houses, he invited virtuous craftsmen. At the time of offering, he asked, "Is not what you call a house made up of many stones and wood? If the stones and wood are separated one by one, can a house still be built?" Finally, he even divided the dust into various parts to ask questions. They admitted it. So he applied this reasoning and said, "One apprehends a house in stone and wood; seeing stone and wood, it is meaningless. If one sees its parts, then knowing it as a house is an illusion." It is said that he said this. In this way, he only briefly explained the reasoning of establishing the selflessness of phenomena through three types of reasoning. Secondly, regarding the way in which the contents widely explained in the major Madhyamaka treatises are collected and presented here, as the verse says: "The reasoning of the Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness, and also from the Root of Wisdom of the Middle Way, the emptiness of the nature of phenomena has been established and explained. Why would this treatise become complicated? Therefore, it is not elaborated here, but only the established tenets are well explained for the sake of meditation." That is to say, as mentioned earlier, when elaborating on the categories of reasoning, the reasoning of the Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness and the Root Wisdom of the Middle Way, etc.

Although the master Nāgārjuna himself composed works, and in order to ascertain the meaning of those works, the treatises of previous masters extensively explained how the emptiness, the true nature of phenomena such as the aggregates, is established and how it does not go beyond that, all of that is not elaborated here. Because there is concern that this treatise would become too extensive, therefore, this treatise does not fully elaborate on all of that. It only explains that the tenet of the Mahāyāna Madhyamaka school is that the emptiness of the nature of things is established by its own reasoning, and that other reasonings cannot harm it. So, for what purpose is it explained? It is not for the purpose of making one's own side strong, nor for refuting the other's side, but it is thoroughly explained for the purpose of meditating as an antidote to reversing the grasping at reality in one's own mind. That is to say, in the words of Spyilbuwa: Although there are many reasonings such as the "Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness" and the "Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning," they are not listed here because one can understand by merely accepting one's own tenets, and because of the fear of extensive treatises. The nature of all phenomena, such as existence and non-existence, appearance and sound, samsara and nirvana, is established as unborn, and it is made only as one's own meaning of meditation. Sharawa also said: How did the master determine the meaning of the root of the Middle Way? All those who followed the master Buddhapālita and his followers, and those who followed the master Bhāviveka and his followers, determined the meaning of the master's Root Wisdom. All the Sharawa Khenpos are the same. Bhāviveka's "Essence of the Middle Way" is also to determine the meaning of the essence of the root of the Middle Way. Chandrakirti's "Entering the Middle Way" is also said to be entering it. Similarly, the "Ornament of the Middle Way" and the "Appearance of the Middle Way" are all said to clarify and manifest its meaning. Second, regarding the way to abide in the continuum of realized wisdom, there are two: introducing the meaning of meditation and showing how to abide in it. The first is: Therefore, since the nature of all phenomena is not perceived,
