When in meditation, how should it be? Do not cut off past thoughts, do not welcome future thoughts, do not conceptualize present appearances. Let awareness remain clear and without thought. Like the center of a pure sky, let the mind naturally rest in a state of non-fabrication. At that time, awareness will remain for a moment, or just a second or two. Do not consider it good if it is long, nor bad if it is short. After meditating in this way for some time, awareness will flow continuously like a flame or a river. At that time, it is called the yoga of the river's flow. Just as a river flows continuously and a flame burns steadily, day and night, I should only focus on this, and there is no other way. This is the essence, nature, and characteristic of the mind. The essence is without bias and free from all elaboration. The nature is clear, knowing, and unobstructed, and cannot be defined. The characteristic is to transform into various thoughts. In short, let go of all actions, the only thing to do is to abandon the world and focus on meditation. Meditate diligently for a long time, and you will experience the realization of meditation. Through moderate effort, realization will naturally arise. The Introduction by Dagpo Gomchung (Dwags po sgom chung, a Kagyu master). The Introduction by Dagpo Gomchung. Homage to all the Lamas! The venerable Gomchung said: 'Then, how should the introduction and meditation of Mahamudra be done? The mind-essence that is born together is the Dharmakāya (chos kyi sku, Dharmakāya, the Body of Dharma), and the appearance that is born together is the radiance of the Dharmakāya. If one realizes the essence of the mind's awareness, one becomes a Buddha; if one does not realize it, one remains in samsara. In general, the most profound of all dharmas is action. If one meditates, how should one meditate? Do not cut off the past, do not welcome the future, let the present awareness naturally abide. The so-called not cutting off the past means that our mind does not follow previous thoughts. The so-called not welcoming the future means that our mind does not welcome future thoughts. The so-called letting the present awareness naturally abide means not clinging to anything. If the mind is not fabricated, it will become clear; just as water that is not stirred becomes clear. Therefore, let the mind naturally abide in a state of non-fabrication. By abiding in this way, it will become clear and without thought, and one may experience emptiness, luminosity, bliss, or just subtle sensations. Do not consider it good if it is long.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do not look for qualities, do not regard shortcomings as short-lived, meditate. After that, a thought will arise, relax and abide in it. The mind-essence bound by a rope, if relaxed, there is no doubt that it will be liberated. Because it is something to be done, it is relaxation. Like that, relaxing and meditating, when it is clear and without thought, the time will become longer and longer. When a certain moment comes, it will suddenly go into your own nature. Like that, it is called the continuous samadhi of a river. Having realized Mahamudra, even if you study the words, it will eventually come down to this meaning, there is nothing else besides that. Relax and meditate! The Oral Instructions on the Ground, Path, and Fruition The words of Chöje Dakpo Lhaje: The Oral Instructions on the Ground, Path, and Fruition. Homage to the venerable Lamas! In order to realize Mahamudra for those of the highest faculty, there are three meanings: to know the ground with the Mahamudra of the nature of the ground; to show the means of practicing the path with the Mahamudra of the path of meditation; and to show the spontaneously accomplished fruit. Showing the means of practicing the path with the Mahamudra of the path of meditation is: first, to seek the taste of Mahamudra with symbolic instructions; second, to settle the mind-essence in its natural state with the meditation of non-duality and luminosity; and finally, to transform thoughts with the yoga of non-attention. As it is said in the tantra: 'Not spoken by others, co-emergent, nowhere to be found, known through relying on the Lama's skillful means and one's own merit.' Therefore, showing the face of the unborn with symbolic instructions is the lineage Lama and the actual root Lama. Among them, the lineage Lama, who is non-different from oneself, shows the face of the unborn. First, placing awareness on the sound of a bell, thereby showing the face of the unborn. Second, showing the sudden thought is: through Vajrasana (金刚座,梵文:वज्रासन,Vajrāsana,金刚座,坚固的座位), causing the disciple to also have the awareness of holding the Vajrasana, thereby making one believe in the sudden thought. Third, showing the thought as the nature of reality is: through the noble peacock, causing the disciple to also have the thought of holding the peacock, thereby believing that the thought of holding the Vajrasana is also the nature of reality. Fourth, showing that all thoughts that arise are the nature of reality, and that there are no other independent thoughts besides that. The actual root Lama is: first, to tame the mind that has not been tamed; to stabilize the mind that has been tamed; and to enhance the mind that has been stabilized. First is: lighting a butter lamp on one's side... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
