Collected Teachings of Gampopa GM26: Essence Introduction, Treasury of Ultimate Meaning. 1-25-1a (RA) The words of Dharma Lord Dagpo Lhaje. Essence Introduction, Treasury of Ultimate Meaning. The oral instructions of the Great Seal of Definitive Meaning, Essence Introduction, Treasury of Ultimate Meaning. 1-25-1b Homage to the holy Lamas. This oral instruction of the Great Seal of Definitive Meaning (Tibetan: ངེས་དོན།, Sanskrit: nitārtha, Romanized Sanskrit: nitārtha, Literal meaning: definitive meaning), Because I have not attained the unforgetting dharani (Tibetan: མི་བརྗེད་གཟུངས།, Sanskrit: smṛti-dhāraṇī, Romanized Sanskrit: smṛti-dhāraṇī, Literal meaning: memory-holding), I will write it down to refresh my memory. From the words of Bodhisattva Rinpoche: Outer and inner, all arise together. Samsara and Nirvana are merely appearances. In the original state, they are one. The extent of the past that has passed, the extent of the future that will come, and the various thoughts that appear and arise in the present, all three are one in the essence of the original state. In the past, the Dharma nature abides in the original state. In the future, the Dharma nature also abides in the original state. Now, 1-25-2a Whatever various thoughts arise, they do not deviate from the state of the original Dharma nature. Realizing that there is no difference between the three times of past, future, and present is the Great Seal. 'Hand' means realizing that all appearances of samsara and nirvana do not deviate from the state of the unborn Dharma nature. All that appears and exists does not deviate from the meaning of the original state, hence it is the 'Seal'. Realizing the self-liberation of Dharma nature is 'Great'. The person who realizes in this way, outer and inner, all arise together, like pure gold. The meaning of outer and inner arising together is that it always abides without gathering or scattering. Whatever state you abide in, look at what arises as the essence of the original state. In the state of the original nature, anger arises. The essence of the original nature is emptiness. Therefore, anger dissolves on its own. In the state of the original nature, desire arises. The essence of the original nature is emptiness. Therefore, desire dissolves on its own. In the state of the original nature, ignorance arises. The essence of the original nature is emptiness. Therefore, ignorance dissolves on its own. In the state of the original nature, jealousy arises. The essence of the original nature is emptiness. Therefore, jealousy 1-25-2b dissolves on its own. In the state of the original nature, pride arises. The essence of the original nature is emptiness. Therefore, pride dissolves on its own. For example, in the great ocean, many kinds of water arise, but their essence is one of water. This oneness always abides. Meditate on rivers flowing into the ocean. In this meaning of always abiding, there is no gathering or scattering, it always abides. There is no birth or death, it always abides. There is no abandonment or attainment, it always abides. There is no increase or decrease, it always abides. There is no arising or ceasing, it always abides. The original Dharma nature always abides. All appearances are the Great Seal. 1-25-3a --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Abide in (Mahamudra). Whatever actions the body performs, whatever words the mouth speaks, abide in the essence of Mahamudra. The person who realizes this is like a flowing river, a roaring wind, and stable meditation. The original (state) continues непрерывно. There is no need to seek it outside oneself. For the meaning of this непрерывно abiding, it inherently exists within oneself, existing without beginning or end, existing without clarity or obscurity, existing without change, and all needs and desires exist within oneself. For the meaning of this existing within oneself, it cannot be found by seeking it elsewhere, and there is no need to abandon the incompatible (states). For the meaning of the original nature of reality, whatever arises is naturally liberated in the nature of reality, like the clear sky, clouds, and mists, etc., all naturally dissolve in the nature of the sky, without antidotes or aids. Mind itself is Mahamudra, there is no experience to be abandoned, like a precious golden island, everything is made of gold, therefore there is no need to abandon the incompatible (states), and it cannot be corrected with antidotes. The meaning of not abandoning the incompatible (states) is that it cannot be achieved with antidotes, because it is inherently so, so there is no antidote. The state of the nature of reality naturally liberated and abiding, there is no need to correct it with antidotes, and there is no need to strive to obtain results. For this nature of reality without antidotes, once one realizes that it exists within oneself, there is no need to obtain results from elsewhere. When the original matures within oneself, there is no need to rely on other results. For this result without hope or doubt, understand it as a result without hope or doubt, like the clear sky, there is no view to be grasped. Since it is impossible to strive to obtain results, it is certain that there is no view to be grasped. For the meaning of the original nature of reality, since it does not arise from the continuum of conceptual thoughts, it is certain that there is no view to be grasped. Since it is free from shape and color, it is certain that there is no view to be grasped. Since it is free from the extremes of elaboration, it is certain that there is no view to be grasped. Like the moon in the water, it does not need to be practiced. When this view without grasping, realizes that it exists within oneself, there is no need to practice it from elsewhere. Do not seek it through the door of the body, do not speak of it through the door of speech, do not contemplate it through the door of mind, there is no calculation of whether to meditate or not meditate. Because it is unspeakable, it is Mahamudra. When abiding by being free from action, the original (state) continues непрерывно, like the непрерывно flow of a river. Do not chase after words, absorb the meaning into your heart. Those with karmic fortune, please pray, I will write the instructions into words. May the Gurus, Yidams, and Dakinis be pleased, and grant accomplishments! ༄། །Padmasambhava --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
