It is the nature of mind. There are five signs for this: When appearances are recognized as mind, attachment to external objects disappears; when the mind is recognized as emptiness, the basis of mind does not arise; when emptiness is recognized as clear light, the mind itself is not distracted from the clear light; when clear light is recognized as union, appearances become helpful; when union is recognized as great bliss, it is like brandishing a spear in the boundless sky. There are three experiences for this: First, the experience is like a ball of light; second, the experience is like a clear crystal; third, the experience is like the endless sky. There are three heats for this: The external heat is that the body is not felt to exist; the internal heat is that the breath is not felt to move; the secret heat is that the flow of thoughts ceases. The sign of a stable mind is that actions and activities cease, and appearances do not harm. Furthermore, the precious lama said: 'How do you know that practicing the deity and emptiness are not contradictory? If you meditate on this life as a deity, then at the time of death, by visualizing, the mind itself will appear as a deity. Because attachment binds, emptiness should be expanded. There is clarity in emptiness, and no attachment to forms. Emptiness has the nature of compassion. Whoever has these in their lineage has the unpolluted bliss and Dharmakaya.' It is said that this is the instruction for practice at the time of death. This was done by the nephew of the Lord (the author), Chagcha Chökyi Je (法王恰察), Sönam Lhündrub Drakpa Gyaltsen Palsangpo (索南·伦珠·达奥·坚赞·华桑波), in order to spread the teachings of the Kagyu lineage at Riwochen-dir (香提山).
