Thus it is said: 'Retention, filling, dissolving, shooting like an arrow; if these four combinations are not understood, merits may turn into faults.' Among them, 'retention' means inhaling from both nostrils; 'filling' means visualizing the breath descending from the left and right channels; 'dissolving' means visualizing the breath entering the central channel below the navel from the left and right channels; 'shooting like an arrow' is visualizing, at the confluence of the three channels, the bindu (Tibetan: ཐིག་ལེ།) of wind and mind combined, the size of a white mustard seed, ascending from the central channel, shooting straight into the sky from the aperture of the Brahma hole (Tibetan: ཚང་པའི་བུ་ག།); the wind also follows like blue smoke. Then, visualize in the central channel where the three channels converge, a red flame about four fingers high, with a sharp tip, a hot touch, and a pleasant sensation, focusing on this, pressing down the upper air, lifting the lower air, contracting the abdomen to the back, doing as much as possible, and exhaling from the nostrils when unable to continue. Practice repeatedly, constantly cultivating. When stopping, let the breath return to its natural state. Do not practice at noon or midnight, do not practice in noisy places, do not practice after a full meal. By practicing in this way, one can initially open the knots of the channels, then increase the bindu, from which arises bliss, and then arises realizations such as bliss and clarity, which is the order of arising the fruition. This is the oral instruction of the experiential practice of Tummo (Tibetan: གཏུམ་མོ།) of the great master Milarepa. Oral Instructions on Tummo from the Face of Milarepa Namo Ratna Guru! Regarding the practice of Tummo Atung, the great master Naropa said: 'The secret mantra of Chakrasamvara, recited seven million times, the earth shakes, and prophecies are received.' In particular, the Six Yogas of Naropa, including Tummo Atung, arose naturally in the mind of Naropa. The above is consistent with what was said earlier. There are three key points in practicing Tummo Atung: the key point of the body, the key point of the channels, and the key point of the air. First, the key point of the body is to cross the legs like the eyes of a bird, straighten the spine like an arrow, and bend the neck like an iron hook. Adjust the posture in this way, such as the vajra posture, and be sure to adjust to the best state. Second, the key point of the channels is Tummo based on the three channels. The body is upright, the central channel is like a hollow pillar, without entanglements or bends, white on the outside and red on the inside, empty and transparent like a medium-sized bamboo tube. The upper end is inserted into the 'Hum' (藏文:ཧཾ་,梵文天城体:हं,梵文罗马拟音:haṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) syllable at the crown of the head, and the lower end reaches about four fingers below the navel. There are two types of central channel: the 'explained central channel' and the 'inherent central channel'. The 'explained central channel' refers to the spinal cord. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is said that within it, there exists a primordial dhūti (藏语:དྷཱུ་ཏི་,梵语:dhūti,梵语罗马拟音:dhūti,汉语字面意思:shaking), the essence of mind, as subtle as a strand of yak tail hair. Visualize the two side channels, rising from the nostrils, reaching the crown of the head, and before fully mixing with the throat, descending again, becoming slender before fully mixing with the heart. Then, visualize them connecting with the central channel below the navel. Visualize them as medium-sized arrow shafts, like the illusion of a ewe's abortion, both thin and long. Third, integrate the winds into the key points through four methods: inhale through both nostrils, visualizing the breath flowing down the two channels, filling the entire body. Visualize the breath entering the central channel, then visualize at the junction of the three channels, the wind and mind merging, forming a white bindu (drop) the size of a mustard seed. Visualize it rising to the crown of the head, with the breath also rising in a dark blue form. Then, suppress the upper wind, draw in the lower wind, combine and contract them at the spine, focusing on the 'A' (藏语:ཨ་,梵语天城体:अ,梵语罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:none) at the navel, visualizing it as a short stroke in Indian script, possessing the nature of fire, like a needle. Hold the breath as long as possible, and when unable to hold any longer, slowly exhale through both nostrils. Meditate in this way repeatedly. During breaks, allow the breath to return to its natural state, as before. The result of such meditation is that the body will naturally generate comfortable warmth and strength, and the mind will naturally arise with clarity, all in accordance with the scriptures. In general, the visualizations for tummo (inner heat) are inconceivable, but it is said to encompass five 'A's. They are: 'A' (藏语:ཨ་,梵语天城体:अ,梵语罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:none), 'Ale' (藏语:ཨ་ལེབ,梵语天城体:अले,梵语罗马拟音:ale,汉语字面意思:none moving), 'Am' (藏语:ཨཾ་,梵语天城体:अं,梵语罗马拟音:aṃ,汉语字面意思:none), bindu, 'Om' (藏语:ཨོཾ་,梵语天城体:ओ,梵语罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:om), lunar phase, 'Am' (藏语:ཨཾ་,梵语天城体:अं,梵语罗马拟音:aṃ,汉语字面意思:none), like a bent bow, and 'A' (藏语:ཨ་,梵语天城体:अ,梵语罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:none) short stroke, which is the focus of the 'A' short stroke visualization. In the short 'A' and the four yogas of Milarepa, there is no difference between the two visualizations—the butter lamp and the 'A' short stroke. It is said that both have the effect of eliminating diseases. The oral instructions of Tummo Short 'A'. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
